RESOLUTION

CD21.R27

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE IN FRONTIER ZONES

THE 21st DIRECTING COUNCIL,

Taking into account the importance of health problems in frontier regions common to two or more

countries; and

Considering that for the control of the diseases which affect border areas it is essential to carry out

synchronized, coordinated measures financed simultaneously by the countries involved,

RESOLVES

1. To request the assistance of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau in promoting with the

Governments having common health problems along their borders that they study them jointly and

develop coordinated activities, and that they make available the necessary financial assistance for

the control of diseases affecting border areas or for programs financed jointly by the interested

parties.

2. To recommend that, when necessary, the health authorities of the countries establish groups with

the specific function of giving priority attention to border problems.

3. To request those countries which have joint border programs to meet periodically in order to
