Dear Readers,

The year of 2007 was very special to the Journal of Applied Oral Science (JAOS). Some of our main goals were achieved like the increase in the number of international reviewers and contributors.

Our online submission system, launched on November 1, has been receiving comments and suggestions. We encourage contributors and reviewers to keep on expressing their opinions about the online submission system so that we can progressively improve it. This is instrumental in order to speed up the publication of articles submitted to the JAOS. Everyone is more than welcome to visit our online submission system web site: http://submission.scielo.br/ index.php/jaos/login

In 2007 we covered different areas in the 90 articles published, which included research articles as well as invited reviews and case reports. As we did last year, we take advantage of this opportunity to thank all the contributors for choosing our journal. Our special thanks and deep gratitude are directed to our reviewers, who kindly expressed their opinions and suggestions in a timely fashion.

I am extremely grateful to my devoted team, the librarians Valéria Cristina Trindade Ferraz and José Roberto Plácido Amadei, the secretary Sônia Cláudia Pirola Rodrigues, the journalist Neimar Vitor Pavarini, and the cover designer Rubens Kazuo Kato. Without their precious help and patience it would be impossible for me to perform such a demanding job as the Editor-in-Chief of the JAOS.

It is my obligation to thank CNPq, CAPES and the University of São Paulo for the financial support. Finally, I must emphasize all the institutional support I have been receiving from Professors Luiz Fernando Pegoraro and José Carlos Pereira, respectively Dean and Vice-Dean of Bauru School of Dentistry, University of São Paulo.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May JAOS become even better in 2008 with contributions from all over the world!

Best regards,

Carlos F. Santos, DDS, PhD, Associate Professor
