The visibilit y of a scient ific j ournal depends in t he first place on t he qualit y of t he art icles t hat it publishes, but now adays, especially, on t he indexing m edia it ut ilizes. This is so because t hese indexing m edia are t he ones t hat facilit at e t he access t o t he j ournal by researchers from different places, part icularly considering a j ournal t hat is published virt ually. I nt roducing t he Mat eria Journal in t he SciELO collect ion w as very im port ant t o broaden it s spect rum of act ion. Since t hen t here has been an increasing act ivit y of access t o it s art icles and also t o t he subm ission of new art icles for publicat ion. I t is expect ed t hat a sim ilar accept at ion by t he m at erials area scient ific com m unit y w ill t ake place from t his m om ent on because Mat eria has j ust been accept ed t o be indexed by t he Scopus base (ht t p: / / w w w .am ericalat ina.elsevier.com / sul/ pt - br/ scopus.php) . This represent s an im port ant st ep t o progressively m ore int egrat e t he Mat eria j ournal t o t he scient ific area it is devot ed t o, publishing an increasing num ber of first rat ed and innovat ive art icles. I t is wort h m ent ioning, t hough, t hat in addit ion t o t he indexing m echanism s t o w hich t he j ournal is allied, anot her key issue t o w arrant visibilit y t o a scient ific j ournal is t he cit at ion of t he art icles it publishes. I f, in one hand, t he subscript ion t o t he different indexing m echanism s is an act ivit y t hat depends on t he w ork done by t he j ournal’s edit ors, on t he ot her hand, t he cit at ion of art icles depends on t he aut hors’ approach. Furt herm ore, I ’d like t o ask t he aut hors subm it t ing t heir art icles for publicat ion in t he Mat eria j ournal t o include t he j ournal’s ow n collect ion of published art icles, w hich are of free virt ual access, as part of t heir bibliographic review effort . The obj ect ives for t hat w ould be t o benefit from t he specialized inform at ion t his collect ion offers and also t o increase t he cit at ion index of t he j ournal’s art icles.
