Bythe timeofits creation,in1947,RAUSPManagement Journalhadas its mainobjectivethat of publishing the tech-nicalandscientificworks of theresearchers ofthe Schoolof Economics, Business Administration and Accounting of the UniversityofSãoPaulo.Overtheyears, however,RAUSP Man-agementJournalhasbecomeanimportantoutlettodisseminate the studiescarried out at majorBrazilian research centers to scholarsandpractitionersalike.RAUSPhasbeenhenceawarded thehighestgradeforaBrazilianjournal1bytheCAPESQualis systembyofMinistryofEducation.
Nowadays,RAUSP ManagementJournalaims toreachan evenhigherlevelofqualitybyseekinggreaterinternational vis-ibility.Itaimstoinvolveanincreasingnumberofinternational researcherswithinitspublications, astoobtaininternational dis-tinctioninits editions. The decision topublishall articles in theEnglish languagesince2016 isaclear stepinthis direc-tion.Allthosechanges,nevertheless,bringnewandsignificant challenges.
Tocelebratethe70thanniversaryanddiscussopportunities andchallengesforbothourandotherBrazilianjournalsinthe Managementarea,onJuly10,wehostedaforumwiththe edit-orsofthe mostimportantBrazilianmanagement journalsand honoredRAUSP’sformereditors.
The forum began with a speech by Professor Maria José Tonelli, editor of Revista de Administrac¸ão de Empresas

Tonelli, who had undertakenanintensive documentalresearchonbothRAUSP ManagementJournalandRAE-FGV,contextualizedthe histori-calimportanceofRAUSPManagementJournal,highlightingits roleinthedelimitationoftheManagementfieldinBrazil.Atthe endofthiseditorial, thereisaspecialarticlewrittenbyTonelli, who kindly agreed to cooperate with our celebration. In her article, sheanalyzesthefirsteditionsofRAUSPManagement Journal, reaffirmingthat“thefirsteditionofRAUSP Manage-ment Journal in 1947 should be considered the foundational markofthescientificfieldofBusinessAdministrationinBrazil.” Inthenextpart,ProfessorEduardoDiniz(EAESP-FGV) pre-sentedthelecture“TheBrazilianManagementjournalsinthe contextoftheinternationalizationofscientificproduction.”He launchedaseriesofquestionsonthedilemma:ifBrazilian jour-nals do not seek internationalization they will “lose national relevance.”Amongthepossibleinitiatives, hediscussedtheuse oftheEnglishlanguagefornationaljournals.Dinizemphasized that, ontheonehand, theadoptionoftheEnglishlanguageallows for greaterinternationalvisibilitybecauseitisthehegemonic languageinthemainacademiccircles. But,ontheother, pub-lishing inEnglish perse does not guaranteequality andcan leadtotheweakeningoflocaltraditions, turningthefieldinto “monocultural”knowledge.Heproposesajointactionsothat Brazilianjournalscouldgainscale, improvetheireditorial man-agementandsupporteachothertojointhemaininternational indexers.
Anotherspeaker,ProfessorLuizMesquita, fromtheArizona StateUniversityandamemberoftheeditorialboardofseveral Management journals, such as the Academy of Management Journal, discussed the majortrendsof theinternational Man-agementjournals,pointingouttherelevanttopicsthatbusiness journalsarefavoring.Henotedthatinadditiontoarticleswith sophisticatedstatisticalmethodsandtheuseofbigdata, thereis roomforgoodqualitativestudiesandmixedmethods, andfor workingoncreativeissuesthatchallengetraditionaltheoretical approaches.Healsounderlinedthegrowthofmultidisciplinary approaches, as is the case in the Management area, whose bodyofknowledgeimportsconceptsfromotherareassinceits beginning.
