Olympic Flame ventures into the Amazon Forest

Full day for the Olympic Torch Relay, with avisit to the forest, boat
trip to the Encontrodas Águas and rafting
The Rio 2016 Olympic TorchRelay is to spend another day in the state of Amazonas. This Monday, 20 June,as part of a special operation, the Olympic Flame will visit the municipalitiesof Iranduba and Presidente Figueiredo. Fifteen torchbearers will take part inthe relay, which will cover 450 km, including transits. The day will begin early,at 7.30 am, at the Jungle Warfare Training Centre (CIGS), with a visit to theforest.
· Soon after, the OlympicFlame will take a boat trip along the Rio Negro to visit the river dolphins.The relay will also pause on Tupé beach, where theDessana tribe live. Raimundo, the shaman and oldest member of the tribe, willcarry the Olympic Torch.
· On leaving the beach, the relay will continue bytraditional canoe to the Catalão Lake, where it willvisit the riverside community. The relay procession will then go down the RioNegro towards the Encontro das Águas(Confluence), the point at which the dark river waters of the Rio Negro encounterthe muddy Solimões river waters without mixing.
· The retinue will then headby helicopter for Presidente Figueiredo. The region is 107 km from Manaus and boastsa landscape of over a hundred waterfalls. It is known as the as the Terra das Cachoeiras (Land of Waterfalls). TheOlympic Torch will visit the Iracema Waterfall and then go on to the Urubuí Park, for a rafting session on the Urubuí river before returningto Manaus.

Davi deSouza - Davi represents a change of awareness that is taking place in Amazonia. To support his riverside family, Davi and his wife, Márcia, with no formaleducation and unable to relocate to find a means of support, have dedicatedthemselves to the pink river dolphins and attract tourists to the beach ontheir land at the inlet of the Acajatuba Lake. While interacting with the riverdolphins, they developed a friendly, playful relationship, similar to the tiesthat bind us to our dogs and cats at home. Today, all of them, the couple, thefamily and the dolphins, interact with researchers from the National Institutefor Amazonian Research (INPA) and the Association of Friends of the Manatee(AMPA).
IgorAndrade – Igor changed his job from veterinary surgeon to physiotherapist anddeveloped a project enabling children with impairments to learn to swim withpink river dolphins. He created dolphin therapy, an experimental method thatuses the natural ultrasounds that dolphins produce in the treatment of childrenwith impairments in the waters of the Rio Negro. Since he began ten years ago,Igor has treated thousands of children and young people with all kinds ofimpairments, and at no cost whatsoever. Igor was invited by the Nissansponsorship to carry the Olympic Torch.
André de Araújo and Luiz de Araújo – Luiz andAndré, father and son, have always worked together transporting goods andpassengers on the Amazon river between Manaus and
Tabatinga, a journey ofaround 1,600 km. In 2009, André began carrying the world’s first floating bank,transforming some communities and municipalities in the state of Amazonas. In2012, Luiz followed in his father’s footsteps and set up another floating bank.André and Luiz were invited by the Bradesco sponsorship to carry the OlympicTorch.

Terms of Use
Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs): RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil, on a
non-exclusive basis, in accordance with the terms of their respective media rights agreement with the IOC.
Non-Rights Holding Broadcasters (Non-RHBs): Non-RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil
(with the exclusion of the opening and closing ceremonies), on a non-exclusive basis, for a maximum of 36 hours after the event. Any such broadcast must be positioned as news only and not to create, or be positioned as, Olympic torch relay focused programming.
No commercial/promotional association is permitted with the coverage of the Olympic torch relay. In particular, broadcast of the Olympic torch relay may not (i) be sponsored or otherwise be associated in any way to give the impression that Non-RHBs and/or any unauthorized entities and/or products are linked to or associated to the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement and (ii) imply, suggest or represent Non-RHBs as being official rights holding broadcasters and/or partners of the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement.
Opening and Closing ceremonies: The part of the torch relay occurring during the opening and closing
ceremonies of the Games is part of the exclusive rights granted to RHBs and any broadcast by Non-RHBs must comply with the IOC News Access Rules.
