History of IACEE

 Rapid technological advances created concern for

maintaining and improving technical competence of working engineers and technicians worldwide

 In 1987 the UNESCO Working Group on Continuing Education of Engineers and Technicians (WGCEET)

presented a plan for an international association to UNESCO

 Support was sought from several organizations to establish a headquarters. Helsinki University of Technology stepped

forward

 Charter was signed on May 17, 1989 at the 4th World

 1974 UNESCO formed the Working Group on Engineering Education/Industry Cooperation  1979 the 1st World Conference on Continuing

 Promote international technology transfer through a better understanding of the continuing education process

 Improve the quality of education and training of engineers and technicians, and of technical

information through international cooperation

 Develop and strengthen cooperation between education and industry

 Support the equality of women in engineering through continuing education

 Promote and conduct research and development in the field of continuing engineering education

 Initiate international and regional meetings and conferences on continuing engineering education and provide technical assistance in conducting them
