Introduction
Deois Fennah, 1949 includes 24 valid species (see Carvalho
andWebb,2005)whicharemarkedlyheterogeneousinsizeand
coloration.Fennah(1953)dividedthegenusinthreesubgenera:
D. (Deois), D. (Orodamnis) and D. (Pandysia). Sakakibara (1979)
reviewedthegenuscreatingtwomoresubgenera:D.(Acanthodeois)
andD.(Fennahia)anddescribedfournewspecies.Posteriorly,Costa
andSakakibara(2002)proposedanewtaxonomicstatusfor
Oro-damnisasagenus.
AccordingtoFennah(1949),speciesofthegenusare
character-izedbyhavingthefollowingfeatures:(1)headwidthtwo-thirds
ofpronotumwidth;(2)ocelliclosertooneanotherthantoeyes;
(3)clypeusmoderatelyinflated,notlaterallycompressed,inprofile
smoothlyrounded;(4)rostrumveryshort;(5)pronotumrelatively
large,hexagonal,diskmoderatelyconvex;(6)tegminaofvariable
proportion;(7)subgenitalplatesdivergingdistally,apicalmargin
usuallyexcavated,ifnotthenterminating inapointedprocess;
(8)aedeagusnarrowlytubular,slightlycurved;(9)ovipositorwith
