August 12, 2018 - 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time By Peg Ekerdt
Introduction
When given seemingly impossible tasks or if we carry burdens of fear and doubt, the Lord does not abandon us. When we question the presence of the Lord in the midst of our very human struggles, he reminds us that he is the living bread that came down from heaven. If we taste and see the goodness of the Lord, if we eat this bread and fervently ask to become what we receive, then anger will dissipate in our lives. The marks of faith in Jesus — kindness, forgiveness and compassion will define our lives.
Prayer of the Faithful
Let us pray for the needs of this community and for our world.
For the church, for grace to recognize the Bread of Life as the center of our lives; for faithfulness to live as bread for all the world ... we pray, For citizens and leaders alike, for steadfast resolve to never give up on the work of peace; peace found in dialogue and compromise — in our homes, in our cities and in our world ... we pray
For those filled with bitterness, for those who struggle to be free of anger, for grace to forgive ourselves and others; to openness to the Spirit who helps us live as the beloved children of God ... we pray
For all who hunger for food, for those who hunger for justice to find ways to feed the hungry of our world, to ensure that all humanity has enough to live in dignity ... we pray
For students who begin a new academic year, here at home and on college campuses, for parents who send them forth ... we pray
For the sick of our parish community, for those who daily face depression or addiction, for all who have asked for our prayers ... we pray
PRAYER: Bread of life, source of courage and
hope, we offer you these spoken prayers and the intentions that we carry in our hearts. Make us mindful of those who hunger for food and attention, for work and dignity. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son. Amen
Our parish offers “Online Giving”, a web based electronic contribution application.

Wednesday August 15th
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This solemnity celebrates the bodily taking up of the
Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven at the end of her earthly
life. This doctrine was dogmatically defined in 1950 by
Pope Pius XII, but accounts of the assumption of Mary
into heaven survive in apocryphal narratives from third
and fourth centuries. Celebrated as early as the fifth
cen-tury, this feast became official in the ninth cencen-tury, with
the additions of a vigil and octave feast. May we offer
our praise and thanks for Christ’s promise that we too will
be received into God’s paradise. †

PRAYER FOR
PEACE OF MIND
Kneeling at your feet, sweet Mother of God and
Queen of Peace, I, your loving child, confidently turn
to you in my need, seeking your intercession for peace
of mind and comfort to my troubled heart. (Here
mention your petition) O listen to me, dear Heavenly
Mother. Come to my aid and refuse me not as I cry to
you. For you are my mother, and you fail no one who
has recourse to you, O Consoler of the afflicted, o
Queen of Peace. Amen.
<<Remember that you have only one
soul; that you have only one death to
die; that you have only one life, which
is short and has to be lived by you alone;
and there is only one Glory, which is
eternal. If you do this, there will be many
things about which you care nothing.>>
“Eu sou o pão vivo descido do céu.
