O Aeroporto está localizado num planalto na costa Este da ilha da Madeira, com uma subida abrupta do terreno no lado oposto à costa. Este facto gera, muito frequentemente, variações na intensidade do vento e turbulência bem como cisalhamento severo do vento a baixa altitude e/ou rajadas.

The Airport is located on a plateau on the east coast of Madeira Island. Except for the seaside, ground raises rapidly very closed to it. This fact generates, very often, wind variation and turbulence. Also severe low altitude wind shear conditions and / or micro burst are likely to be encountered.

Durante a aproximação a aeronave deve cruzar a costa sobre GELO (323952N 0164812W) a 850 FT/QNH (704 FT/QFE)

During approach, the aircraft must cross the coast over GELO (323952N 0164812W) at 850 FT/QNH (704 FT/ QFE).

THR 05, seguindo as luzes de aproximação em curva, não passando para o lado Norte (à sua esquerda). Em ROSARIO (324042N 0164800W) deve manter cerca de 460 FT/QNH (314 FT/ QFE).

À noite ,as luzes de aproximação devem estar ligadas. A falha das luzes na aproximação implica a inicialização do procedimento de borrego ( volta à direita), de forma a evitar as escarpas do lado esquerdo.

At night the RWY 05 approach lights MUST BE ON. If those lights fail before the aircraft is in such a position, over those lights, that will ensure that the high ground on their left side will be avoided, a missed approach (right turn) should be initiated.

A informação fornecida pelo PAPI deve ser seguida. O PAPI está ajustado a uma definição de 3º de ladeira de descida de forma a que a aeronave cruze a Soleira a 57FT.

PAPI should be followed. They are set to define a 3° descent path crossing the Threshold at 57FT.

NOTA:É recomendada prudência ( devido a escarpas de terreno) de forma a evitar o desvio à esquerda das luzes de aproximação da RWY 05.

Com o objectivo de nunca cruzar a direita ( norte) da radial 235 do DVOR/ DME FUN :

Na aproximação visual iniciada sobre o DVOR/DME FUN a aeronave deve ser mantida ligeiramente à esquerda nesta radial até ao ponto onde, com a zona de toque e o PAPI à vista, deve estabelecer o alinhamento com a pista.

On the visual approach initiated overhead DVOR/DME FUN the aircraft should be kept slightly left on this radial until a point where - with touchdown zone and PAPI in sight - it has to line up with the runway.

Manter MDA (H) até à intercepção de 3º na descida final definida pelo PAPI, cruzando a soleira a 57FT

Existem trajectórias curvilíneas definidas para ambas as pistas e para todos os tipos de motores de aeronave.

Descolagem pista 05:

Após a descolagem inicie a volta à direita, logo que possível, de forma a evitar a elevação do terreno à esquerda

Com ventos Oeste, podem ocorrer situações de windshear que originam ventos de cauda. As leituras do anemómetro no final da pista e no ROSARIO reportadas pela torre, podem indicar essa possibilidade.

Perigo de colisão com aves: Bird hazard warning: Concentração de pássaros na área de

movimento e na próximidade do aeroporto Bird concentrations in the Movement Areaand in the Vicinity of the Airport Concentração de aves, diariamente, SR/SS, na

área de movimento (incluindo STRIPS) e na próximidade do aeroporto.

Tanto quanto praticável os Serviços ATS informarão os pilotos destes eventos, bem como a localização estimada, se possivel.

Birds activity takes place daily from SR/SS at the movement area (including STRIPS), and in the vicinity of the airport.

As far as practicable, ATS will inform pilots of this Bird activity and the estimated location, if possible.

Durante os periodos atrás designados, os pilotos são avisados de que a concentração de aves pode não ser detectada com prontidão. É recomendada uma especial atenção nos procedimentos de aproximação para a descida, descida, descolagem, subida e rolagem.

During the above periods, pilots of aircraft are advised that birds may not always be promptly detected and caution is requested during approach-to-land, descent, take-off, climb and Taxi procedures.

As actividades visando a dispersão das aves incluem o uso de canhões de gáz, espantalhos manipulados manualmente e veiculos de mecanismos de dispersão, a presença de técnicos de vida selvagem e falcoaria são também utilizados com aves predatórias, tais como falcões e gaviões

Dispersal activities include the using of gas cannon units, scarecrow hand-held and vehicle devices distress calls, the presence of wildlife personnel and falconry is also used with predatory birds, such as falcons and hawks.
