XXII Brazilian National Meeting on Partiles and Fields (BNMPF)
TheXXIIBrazilianNationalMeetingonPartilesand Fields,BNMPF,tookplaeatthe resort
town of S~ao Loureno, Minas Gerais, on 22 to 26 Otober, as a regular meeting of a speialized
annual series of the Soiedade Brasileira de Fsia. A total number of 294 researhers, inluding
faulty members, reasearh assoiates, and students, mainly from Brazil but some of them from
abroad, presented and disussed their reent work inthe area.
The meeting has been traditionally divided into plenary, parallel and review sessions on one
hand, and oraland poster ommuniations on the other. The present volume publishes
ontribu-tions orresponding to the plenary, parallel and revision sessions. The oral and poster
ommuni-ations are eletronially published in the oÆial webpage of the Soiedade Brasileira de Fsia
(e-address: www.sbf.if.usp.br).
TheOrganizingCommitteethankstheinvitedspeakers whokindlyaeptedthe invitation,and
presented exellent seminars. Also, we would espeially like to thank professors Lua Amendola,
Adriano Natale, Orlando Peres and Matsuo Yutaka who aepted invitations a very short time
beforethe onferene. Wehad infatsome lateorganizationalproblems onnetedwiththe tragi
events inthe United States.
As a tradition, disussions followed seminars and ommuniations, and ontinued along the
intervals after the sessions. Gooduse was made of opportunities for developing sienti
ollabo-rations, either new orin ourse.
The speial session in honor of Professor Roberto Salmeron, a sientist with a history of
dedi-ation tothe development of physis in Brazil and abroad, was partiularly impressive. A group
of former students under his supervision|Ruben Aldrovandi, Jose MariaFilardo Bassalo, Maro
Ant^onio Raupp, and Alberto Santoro|and Rubens Freire Ribeiro, on behalf of the Organizing
Committe, talked about the human and sienti trajetory of Roberto Salmeron. Besides the
speehes, a letter sent by Jose Mariano Gago|former student of Salmeron and presently
Minis-ter of Siene and Tehnology of Portugal|read by professor Santoro, brought a vivid testimony
on Salmeron's vibrant ation and harater. We nally heard from Professor Salmeron himself a
lear, as well as emotive,desription of historial fats inBrazilian siene, inwhih he has fully
partiipated.

universe in expansion, whih was attended by researhers and a rowd of loal young students,
learly moved by their interest insiene.
