The present article written by Haydée Guanais Dourado, in 1948, understands that the education is a branch of social sciences, and therefore it must consider the impacts of the frequent social changes in the education processes. For the author, the education in the nursing school “is one way of which the society transmits knowledge, techniques and attitudes”, aiming at to prepare professionals for different performances. Haydée Dourado detaches four points considered important to be analyzed, which is: 1st - “Nature and origin of the control of the schools of
nursing in Brazil”, in this item detach the different forms of vinculation of the nursing schools (Departments of Health; Universities; Areas of Religious Service, Area of Education; and Hospital), followed of a brief commentary about the impact of these links for the education in nursing; 2nd - “Trends about material facilities of the nursing school”, with emphasis for the necessity of to assure well equipped Laboratories; General
hospitals, with service of nursing of high standard; add services of psychiatry, obstetricses, pediatrics and infectum-contagious diseases; urban and agricultural services of health; Library; Adequate residence to the necessities of the pupils; e Easinesses for the care with the health of the students. The 3rd point approached was “Qualifications of the teaching staff”, being observed that in a country with about a thousand
diplomee nurses, it would not be recommendable to demand, exactly that considered essential for the author, who the nurses were prepared in courses of after-graduation for the faculty of the nursing schools and for the ranks of more relief in the administration of services of hospital nursing and public health. Finally, the author presented 4º topical that she mentioned the “Arbitrary time and the essential activities to the formation of nurses”, and adds that in of being the School of Nursing one of the some institutions of superior education, must have the corresponding duration of the other courses of superior level. These approached questions for Haydée Guanais Dourado many decades ago, still seem us today, object of reflection and evaluation on the part of our associative entities and of nurses, in general way.
