RESOLUTION

CD24.R17

CHAGAS' DISEASE CONTROL

THE 24th DIRECTING COUNCIL,

Bearing in mind the importance of the problem of Chagas' disease in several countries of the

Region;

Considering that WHO has a program of tropical disease research in which attention is paid to

trypanosomal and other diseases; and

Having regard to the great interest shown in this problem by the Delegations taking part in the

Meeting,

RESOLVES

1. To request the Director to approach the Director-General of the World Health Organization, on

behalf of the countries concerned, asking that funds from the tropical disease research program be

set aside for research into the prevention and control of Chagas' disease in the Americas.

2. To request the Director to give priority to Chagas' disease in research and control programs in

PAHO's future budget allocations.

3. To ask the Director also to obtain extrabudgetary funds making it possible to carry out an
