The installed capacity in renewable energy power plants grew for all technologies and is expected to double between 2010 and 2030 to replace coal and natural gas based generation and satisfy the estimated increase of electricity consumption in Portugal.
A strong growth is foreseen for solar photovoltaic until 2030, in the export scenario, taking advantage of country’s excellent conditions.

With the development of new electricity interconnections between the Iberian Peninsula and France, expected for 2020, Portugal may become an exporter of renewable electricity.
In the export scenario, it was considered that exports represent 10% of the electricity generated in Portugal. Renewable generation increase will come from an increase on the installed capacity of solar PV.
