Distribution

The genus C a p i r o n a is known to o c c u r in the A m a z o n v a l l e y , the llanos of Colombia -and the eastern G u i a n a s (Fig. 1 ) . It is a typical element of the flora of the Amazon

basin and defines its limits as does the genus H e v e a (Ducke & B l a c k , 1 9 5 3 , 195*0. C a p i -rona decorticans is found in the w e s t e r n end of the A m a z o n v a l l e y , both north and south of the Amazon R i v e r , reaching as far as the gallery forests in the llanos of C o l o m b i a where they meet the A n d e s . To the n o r t h , it has been c o l l e c t e d along the C a s i q u i a r e ca rial and once in the very uppermost reaches of the Rio O r i n o c o h e a w a t e r s . In the eastern end of the A m a z o n in the state of P a r a , B r a z i l , it is a found only south of the Amazon River.

The other species of C a p i r o n a , C . l e i o p h l o e a , is found in the e a s t e r n G u i a n a s , that is S u r i n a m e a n d F r e n c h G u i a n a , and e x t e n d s s o u t h w a r d into the state of P a r á , B r a -zil.
