My dear Parishioners,
It is now Advent. The past year has flown by quite rapidly. Many good things have happened, and maybe some things that we wish did not happen. But they also have passed by. Now the Church prepares for Christmas. Liturgically it is a new year, full of promises and new beginnings. God always acts in a special way at new beginnings.
People start to decorate their homes, and we see festive signs everywhere. It is important that we remember that what we really have to decorate is our heart, that we always need the light of Christ that comes from meeting him personally, especially at this season.
Advent is the time to prepare for the second coming of Christ, and we remember his first coming among us as an innocent little child. What did we do that was good this past year? What were the goals we reached, and did not reach? Where do we need to grow this coming year?
Jesus in today's Gospel asks us to be aware of the signs of the times, to be aware of the need to be charitable, compassionate, to see in the poor the loving face of God.
May you make this experiment - that you may really feel how your past year was, and how next year should be.
May the Virgin Mary of Perpetual Help help us to give birth to Jesus in the world by the way we act. More important than placing him in a crib in our home, may we place him in our lives and relationships. May all of you have a good and holy week.
God bless you.

First Sunday of Advent
655 PORTUGUESA E BRASILEIRA
Queridos Paroquianos,
Deus sempre age no recomeço!
Pe. Celso Junior, CSsR. Pároco
