Abordagem principal VERBS VOICES

The active voice, for being direct and clearer, is more used in various communication situations.

The difference between the passive voice and the active voice is that in the last one is characterized by the act of the subject.

Look: / Active = Subject + Verb + Object / Veja: Ativa = Sujeito + Verbo + Objeto

Example: / They (Subject) eat (Verb) pizza (Object). / Exemplo: Eles (sujeito) comeram (verbo) pizza (objeto).

(2)

The Active Voice can be used with intransitive and transitive verbs, although most of the cases are with verbs that has both functions, both transitive and intransitive. When we use the active voice the action of the verb is a result of the subject, so, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb.

Look at some examples of sentences in the Active Voice: / Veja alguns exemplos de sentenças na Voz Ativa:

Sabrina ate a four slices of pizzas at dinner.

Sabrina comeu quatro fatias de pizzas no jantar.

Pretty little cats walked the park.

Lindos gatinhos caminharam no parque.

She finished her homework in record time.

I read the all the book in one day.

Eu li todo o livro em um dia.

In the active voice, we can use all kinds of words: positive, negative or question. Unlike the passive voice, it has more fluidity and clarity, which makes it easier to understand. Most writers prefer to work with the active voice, because they can make it clear what they mean.

A frase é constituída basicamente pelo objeto + verbo to be + particípio passado do verbo principal + complemento.

Ex.:

Hamlet was written by Shakespeare.

(Hamlet foi escrita por Shakespeare.)

A beautiful song was written. (Uma bela canção foi escrita.)

The lunch is being cooked by mom. (O almoço está sendo feito pela mamãe.)

(4)

The apple is being eaten. (A maçã está sendo comida.) Observe os exemplos:

Active voice (sujeito agente + verbo + objeto paciente) A. The dog ate my cake.

O cachorro comeu meu bolo.

Passive voice (sujeito paciente + verbo auxiliar to be + verbo principal no particípio passado) B. My cake was eaten.

Meu bolo foi comido.

Passive voice (sujeito paciente + verbo auxiliar to be + verbo principal no particípio passado + objeto agente)

C. My cake was eaten by the dog.

Meu bolo foi comido pelo cachorro.

Mais alguns exemplos:

D. The bakery was stolen.

A padaria foi roubada.

E. We heard that the bandits were identified.

A voz passiva é formada pelo verbo to be + verbo principal no particípio passado.

A. Einstein proposed the theory of relativity.

Einstein propôs a teoria da relatividade.

B. The theory of relativity was proposed by Einstein.
