“JRS TFP1 and TFP2-HC tandem Fabry-Perot
interferometers”
Abstract:
A Fabry-Perot interferometer is based on the principle of multiple beam interference. When used as a spectrometer the plane-parallel Fabry-Perot has excellent resolution but a rather low free spectral range and also a low contrast which does not allow measurements of spectra with high intensity differences. In order to overcome this latter limitation, it has been used corner-cube prisms to route the beam several times through different areas of the Fabry-Perot mirrors, thereby attaining a contrast of more than 1011. For recording Brillouin spectra of opaque samples, the very high-intensity elastic peak has to be separated from the rather low intensity Brillouin peaks. To overcome the restriction of the low free spectral range, a piezoelectrically scanned tandem multipass Fabry-Perot was designed.
Attaching a confocal microscope to the tandem multipass Fabry-Perot interferometer, the recording of Brillouin back-scattering spectra with about 1μm spatial resolution is achieved. With the aid of a computer controlled x-y table, Brillouin spectra imaging of solid samples is also possible. The software for controlling the x-y table is included in the software for recording the Brillouin spectra.
