VISA REQUIREMENTS
The attention of all applicants for visas should be drawn to immigration requirements set out below:
A. PASSPORTS
i. Valid passports or other travel documents including Seaman’s Discharge Book, acceptable to the Government of Kenya are required for all persons wishing to enter Kenya.
ii. Passports must be valid for at least Six (6) Months.
iii. Passports must have a clean and a full visa page for endorsement.
B. PERMITS OR PASSES
Subject to the exemptions mentioned below, an immigration pass or permit is required by all persons, other than Kenya citizens wishing to enter Kenya.
C. EXEMPTIONS
Exemptions from permits are granted to all persons who are entitled to privileges and immunities under the Privileges and Immunities Act (Cap. 179) and who are covered under section 4(3) (a) to (g) of the Immigration Act (Cap. 172) Laws of Kenya.
D. VISITORS
A bona fide visitor may be issued with a visitor’s pass on arrival at a port of entry into Kenya valid for a period not exceeding three months in the first instance provided that he is in possession of a valid passport or other travel document acceptable to the Government of Kenya, has a valid visa where required, is in possession of sufficient funds for subsistence while in Kenya and a return, or onward ticket to his country of origin, domicile or destination.
Nationals of East African Partner States holding valid passports and other acceptable travel documents may be issued with a visitor’s pass on arrival at a port of entry into Kenya valid for Six Months.
Travellers entering Kenya by road should be advised to pass through the gazetted entry points and report immediately to an Immigration Officer.

a) How do I acquire the East African Passport?
The East African Passport is obtainable at the respective passport issuing offices in the EAC Partner States. The passport costs $10 or the equivalent in the local currency.
b) What do I do if I urgently need to travel between EAC states but have no passport?
East African citizens may travel from one EAC state to another without a passport, but they must acquire an admissible temporary document (see details here). Note that this applies only to EAC citizens.
c) Do I need a visa to travel from one EAC country to the next?
If you are a citizen of any one of the five EAC Partner States of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, you won't need a visa to travel to any of the countries within the EAC bloc. For visitors from without East Africa, please check individual EAC Partner State Immigration/Home Affairs websites for visa information.
d) Which documents do I need to carry along with me when travelling to any EAC state?
Standard travel documents such as national passports apply for East Africans and non-East Africans alike, although East Africans may use the East African Passport or temporary travel documents in place of either national or East African passports.
