Specific entry requirements

Passed results of at least 45 credits from the Optician programme's semester 1 and 2.

Objectives

After the course, the student should be able to:

1) list and describe the processes involved in the perception of light and colour,

2) list and describe the processes involved in form perception and perception of depths, 3) list and describe the processes involved in motion and temporal perception,

4) describe and apply methods for study of contrast sensitivity and to be able to interpret the results 5) describe psychophysical methods used in the study of the visual function.

And that the student should be able to show:

6) broad knowledge about the disciplinary foundation of the field,

7) broad knowledge and understanding within optometry, included knowledge of the disciplinary foundation of the optometry, knowledge of applicable methods in the area, advanced study within some part of the field and orientation in current research issues,

8) ability to search, collect and reflect on information in a problem and to discuss phenomena, issues and

situations critically and

9) ability to formulate scientific text in writing. Aim 6-9 should be seen in relation to the document

"Vetenskaplig strimma Optikerprogrammet".

Content

The course contains the following parts: colour perception, depth perception, form perception, light perception, motion perception, temporal perception, contrast sensitivity and psychophysical methods. In addition to this the course is part of the teaching of general scientific knowledge within the program. In connection with this the students way will continue to specialize within scholarship scholarship and best practice and scientific communication. They will also develop his knowledge and understanding, his skills and abilities his judgement and his scientific thought- and attitude in relation to optometry and a lifelong learning. The teaching of general scientific knowledge is described in separate document.

The course is divided into two (2) parts:

Clinical work, 2.0 hp

Grading scale: VU

Part 1 includes written assignments and group assignment and clinical work.

Theoretical understanding, 2.5 hp

Grading scale: VU

Part 2 includes theoretical understanding and renewal of the topic-specific contents of the course.

Teaching methods

The course includes self-study, demonstrations, laboratory sessions, theoretical overviews (in the form of lectures, seminars, Case methods, practical exercises) and written assignments.

The students are given a possibility to train practical skills but must take a great responsibility themselves.

Examination

The course be examined against the following aims and on the following way:

Part 1 examines all learning outcomes. Compulsory and active participation applies at demonstrations, test, laboratory sessions, seminars, study visits and at practical/clinical exercises. in case of absence, measures to be taken are discussed with the course director. The part be examined through written assignments and practical work. The part is graded according to the scale Fail (U)/Pass (G).

Part 2 examines all learning outcomes. The part is examined with a written test. Reexamination may be with an oral test. The part is graded according to the scale Fail (U)/Pass (G)/Pass with credit (VG).

All course is graded according to the scale Fail (U)/Pass (G)/Pass with credit (VG). For Passed, Pass at part 1 is required and 2. Pass with credit requires Pass in part 1 and Pass with credit in part 2.

When a student fails an examination, there will be an opportunity for a new examination. All in all, 6 opportunities for a new examination are provided for all parts

Transitional provisions

The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the spring semester of 2020. Last examination according to this syllabus will be provided the fall semester of 2021 for students who have

not completed the course.

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.

The course is based on knowledge acquired in previous courses in the program.
