Os dados obtidos permitem as seguintes conclusões:

- A retirada do etanol em curto (72 horas) e longo prazo (21 dias), após consumo prolongado, favoreceu a expressão de comportamentos relacionados à ansiedade em fêmeas submetidas ao labirinto em cruz elevado;

- A retirada do etanol em longo (22 dias), mas não em curto prazo (96 horas), promoveu a expressão de comportamentos relacionados à ansiedade durante os 5 primeiros minutos no teste do campo aberto;

- O comportamento do tipo ansiogênico observado na retirada em curto e longo prazo do etanol parece não decorrer de alterações de locomoção, uma vez que não foram observadas alterações locomotoras quando os animais foram submetidos ao teste do campo aberto durante 15 minutos, bem como nas entradas dos braços fechados do labirinto em cruz elevado;

- As retiradas em curto e longo prazo do etanol não alteraram a quantificação de células imunorreativas para a serotonina nas porções dorsal e caudal do NDR, quando comparados ao grupo controle; no entanto, o consumo crônico do etanol reduziu a quantidade de células imunorreativas para a serotonina na porção dorsal do NDR, em relação ao grupo controle.

- Mais estudos tornam-se necessários para um melhor entendimento das bases neurais e farmacológicas envolvidas com a ansiedade na retirada do etanol.
