Este estudo de caso avaliou o risco de transmissão de zoonoses aos funcionários e aos animais em processo de reabilitação e recuperação no NURFS.

Analisaram-se práticas de isolamento, rastreio clínico de animais e trabalhadores, maneio, utilização de equipamento de proteção individual, conceção de instalações, movimento de pessoas, animais, equipamento, amostras e resíduos, controlo de pestes, limpeza e desinfeção, tratamento de resíduos, e habilitação de funcionários.

Foram identificadas faltas de dados necessários a uma adequada investigação de foco de doença infeciosa e é sugerida a correção e o reforço de algumas medidas de biossegurança que são cruciais para a gestão do risco de ocorrência de doenças infeciosas, nomeadamente zoonoses, nesta instituição.

Para colmatar estas falhas, elaboraram-se treze fichas de recolha de dados para suporte, à recolha sistematizada de dados, que providenciarão a informação necessária à rastreabilidade de futuros casos ou focos de doença infeciosa.

Finalmente, recomenda-se a elaboração e a aplicação de um protocolo de referência, com intervenção de uma equipa pluridisciplinar, na qual o médico veterinário assuma um papel preponderante, para fazer face às especificidades deste centro e para assegurar uma permanente monitorização dos níveis de biossegurança e a avaliação do risco.
