5.3 Limitações e sugestões para investigações futuras

Apesar dos contributos do presente estudo, este apresenta várias limitações, nomeadamente: • A amostra em estudo não representa todo o universo empresarial português, pelo que as

conclusões deste estudo não poderão ser tomadas como uma representação alargada do mesmo universo. Todavia, as empresas inquiridas representarão possivelmente as melhores práticas, no âmbito do tema deste estudo, e são consideradas relevantes pela comunidade financeira nacional, dada a sua expressão económica e social;

• Só foram consideradas organizações de media e grande dimensão, quando em Portugal predominam as pequenas e as médias empresas (PME);

• Poderiam ter sido incorporadas no modelo outras variáveis explicativas nas hipóteses de investigação de forma a obter um modelo de regressão mais explicativo do retorno esperado dos ativos;

• Algumas normas importantes como a IFRS 9 e a IFRS 16 são recentes, fazendo com que muitos utilizadores não estejam completamente rotinados na sua aplicação.

As limitações apresentadas podem ser o ponto de partida para outras hipóteses de investigação.

Por exemplo será importante nos anos seguintes ao inicio da aplicação da IFRS 9 e IFRS 16 averiguar como as empresas divulgam o método e taxas usadas uma vez que são normas recentes.

Será interessante fazer um estudo, a nível europeu ou mesmo mundial utilizando plataformas virtuais e redes de contatos profissionais de forma a ter informações da aplicação do tema desconto a nível internacional, não querendo diminuir o facto desta pesquisa ter sido feita maioritariamente em empresas multinacionais que têm representações em todos os continentes.

Fazer uma análise mais profunda nas empresas de menor dimensão no sentido de averiguar as dificuldades sentidas na aplicação do desconto, assim como efetuar uma análise documental às divulgações nos respetivos relatórios de contas.

Outra alternativa é a realização de um estudo que leva em conta outras variáveis contingênciais que não foram consideradas neste estudo, e que podem ter influência no retorno esperado dos ativos. A inclusão de outros fatores na regressão múltipla ou o desenvolvimento de análises multifatoriais poderá melhorar os resultados estatísticos.
