In my view, the theme of this Congress of Fundamental Psychopathology is an event of major importance for the progress of research in the scope of the University Association for Research in Psychopathology Fundamental. Based on Freud’s discovery of the unconscious as a manifestation of mental suffering, as Manoel Tosta Berlinck has often underscored, I defend that dietetics is a very important area for listening to mental suffering and one of the places which subjects often occupy in the subjective situation that identifies them, in ethical and aesthetic terms.
As a reference for ethical and aesthetic positions, dietetics is an axiom that occupies a unique position between the discovery of the unconscious, on the one hand, and other fields of knowledge, on the other, especially when articulation between the body and the mental apparatus is one of the questions under debated.
It is through the question of the ethical and aesthetic position of the subject that fundamental psychopathology establishes common space for working together with scholars in other fields, such as philosophy, anthropology, sociology, history, religion, art, politics and medicine.
In a more specific way, the unconscious as an experience of language is a dietetic construction and is articulated on the basis of the Other’s desire. The drive, a basic concept in psychoanalysis, is an indication of the circuit of dietetics as the articulative axiom between body and mental apparatus.
In view of the fundamental dietetic act, the effects of the position of the subject indicate its passion and, consequently, its suffering. From this perspective, we see infinite possibilities for discussing this symptom that operates as a pre-position of the subject toward the act, through incessant repetition at the service of the unconscious.
Welcome to this dialogue that, like a banquet, invites researchers to an exploration into love, the drive and desire. Welcome to Fortaleza. I hope that this congress in fundamental psychopathology will help us deal with elements that can give dietetics the place it deserves in the space of interlocution among psychoanalysis and so many other fields of knowledge.
