Para futuros estudos, a comparação dos resultados encontrados no período analisado com diferentes períodos de tempo está entre uma das principais possibilidades. Além disso, o presente trabalho utilizou uma classificação bidimensional do desempenho,sendo média e tendência as dimensões. Sendo assim, uma classificação tridimensional, onde a variável dimensão do crescimento passa a ser analisada também pode trazer resultados de relevância para esta área de pesquisa. Também a inclusão de características dos setores e das firmas como explicativas da tendência do desempenho pode trazer resultados relevantes.
A possibilidade e vantagens da utilização uma metodologia no desenvolvimento de futuros trabalhos na área de desempenho de firmas, na área de estratégia empresarial, o, Growth Mixture Modeling (GMM).
Pode ser muito vantajoso o uso desta metodologia para a análise do desempenho de empresas dado que esta traz também dentre os seus resultados a identificação de possibilidade de diferentes padrões de trajetórias do desempenho para diferentes grupos de firmas.
A técnica de modelagem conhecida por Latent-Growth Modeling (LGM) parte do pressuposto que todos os indivíduos provêm de uma ou mais populações observadas. Isto significa que possuem os mesmos parâmetros tais como intercepto e inclinação. O que se argumenta contra a utilização desta técnica é que em muitas situações existem subpopulações desconhecidas não detectadas pelo modelo, e que muitas vezes reconhecê-las e estudá-las é de fundamental importância para o resultado da pesquisa realizada.
Deste modo, em uma análise conjunta com o modelo desenvolvido neste presente dissertação, como sugestão para futuros trabalhos, está a utilização da modelagem Growth Mixture Modeling, que tem por sua vez, como vantagem em relação as outras metodologias, a capacidade de lidar com dados longitudinais e prevendo subpopulações não observadas e suas trajetórias latentes.

1. Definindo Latent- Growth Models
Este modelo identifica uma curva de crescimento que descreve as diferenças entre os indivíduos ao longo do tempo.
É definido por dois fatores latentes (latent-growth factors), intercepto (I), constante para qualquer tempo e slope (S). Ambos têm os parâmetros (µ 2
).
A figura abaixo representa um modelo LGM genérico, medido em cinco espaços de tempo. (WANG; BODNER; 2007).
No caso de modelo desempenho de firmas, este modelo possui dois fatores latentes para a mudança de trajetória do desempenho das empresas:
Intercepto (I), que representa um valor constante do desempenho para qualquer empresa no tempo. No fator intercepto, as medidas de desempenho terão o mesmo fator de carga (factor loading) 𝛌1,...,5= 1. O intercepto possui dois parâmetros, µI que significa
a média de todos os desempenhos no início da mudança e 2I que significa nível de
diferenças entre empresas no começo da mudança.
slope (S) , que representa a taxa de mudança no desempenho para uma dada empresa ao longo do tempo. As medidas do desempenho terão diferentes 𝛌1S,...,5S na
componente slope. Possui dois parâmetros, µslope , média da taxa de mudança do
desempenho de todas as empresas e 2 slope.
