Abstract:: Changes of demographic, functional and physiognomic characteristics of Knic were analyzed in this paper. From the demographic viewpoint Knic represents the largest, and according to the functions the most important settlement of the same called municipality. The closeness and direct influence of Kragujevac determined to a great extent the course and level of the development of Knic. The settlement is depopulation with poorly developed functions, the territorial range of which does not exceed the territorial border of the municipality.

REGIONAL AND FUNCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF KNIC
The most intensive settlement development of Knic has gone in the second half of the 20th and at the
beginning of the 21st century. In that period Knic has developed and promoted the inherited functions which gave to
it the characteristic of an administrative, economic and cultural-educational center of the municipality. Up to 1971 the settlement developed as an agrarian one, in order that in 2002 it had the characteristics of serviceable-industrial settlement with almost half of active population in the tertiary sector.
At the end of the 20th century it came to the stagnation in the demographic and functional development
of Knic. By the last inter census period the settlement is depopulation. The weakening of some functions, the industrial one above all, brought to a considerable unemployment of the local population and numerous social problems.
