BOOK REVIEW

To what variations is sexual desire subject throughout life? How can such variations affect individuals, couples and families? What inter-ventions are available to intercede

in this ield and improve quality of

life of patients with sexual desire disorders?

These are the questions that prompted Sandra R. Leiblum to organize the book Treating Sexual Desire Disorders, where medical experts present different ap-proaches used in the management of patients with sexual desire disorders.

Throughout its 14 chapters, the book shows operational

deinitions of sexual desire and its disorders, data on its

prevalence and variation, and possible intervention for physi

-cians, psychologists and sex therapists in general, who are

dealing with increasing numbers of patients with legitimate complaints of decreased, increased or discrepant libido that

affect their daily lives and relationships.

Possibly, the great merit of this work is to present real

clinical cases in each of its chapters on intervention tech-niques. Together with the authors, Sandra Leiblum sought to select cases that addressed a wide variation of sexual

desire in different types of current relationships, showing

data on interventions with men and women, homosexuals

and heterosexuals, young and old individuals.

Published after the untimely death of its award-winning

and internationally renowned author, Treating Sexual Desire

Disorders is an invaluable work for all professionals who

are interested in queries that directly affect their patients’ quality of life.
