“Some” quer dizer “algum, alguma, alguns, algumas”.
Seus principais usos são:
a) Frases afirmativas.
– There is some cake for dessert, Sir. [Tem um bolo para sobremesa, senhor.]
b) Frases interrogativas quando se espera uma resposta afirmativa.
– Would you lend me some money? [Você me emprestaria um dinheiro?]
c) Em ofertas, oferecimentos.
– Would you like some coffee? [Você gostaria de um pouco de café?]
d) Antes de numerais significando “aproximadamente”:
– I have some friends in this company. [Tenho alguns amigos nesta empresa.]
Os pronomes indefinidos em inglês são representados por
“some”, “any” e “no” e seus correlatos:
“Any” tem absolutamente o mesmo valor semântico de “some” (algum/alguma), só diferindo no
uso.
Seus principais usos são:
a) Em sentenças negativas
– I don´t have anything to tell your father. [Não tenho nada a dizer para seu pai.]
b) Em frases Interrogativas
– Is there anybody there? [Tem alguém ai / lá?]
c) Em “Conditional sentences” inferidas por if e unless.
– Call me if you need anything. [Me ligue se precisar de algo.]
d) Em frases afirmativas significando “qualquer”.
É usado no sentido de “nenhum, nenhuma” e precisa ser aplicado desta maneira:
a) Em frases negativas, com o verbo usado na forma afirmativa.
– I have nothing to tell you. [Não tenho nada para lhe contar.]
– There is nothing here for you to eat. [Não há nada aqui para você comer.]
– She has nothing to complaint about. [Ela não tem do que reclamar.]
Obs: Atenção para a diferença de “none” (nenhum) e “no one” (ninguém).
“None” é utilizado com função pronominal, não necessitando, portanto, de um substantivo após ele,
enquanto que
“no” obrigatoriamente será seguido de um substantivo, por exercer função adjetiva.
