RESOLUTION

CD4.R20

FUNDS FOR ALLOWANCES

THE 4th DIRECTING COUNCIL,

Acting as the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas,

[Having considered] the problem that has arisen regarding the requirement that the Governments

provide the funds to pay field service allowances of staff members of the World Health

Organization; and

[Having] noted that some of the Governments are unable to comply with this requirement because

of economic difficulties or certain legislative restrictions,

RESOLVES

1. To ask the Regional Director to request the Director General of the World Health Organization to

include this topic on the agenda of the Fourth World Health Assembly, with a view to replacing the

present stipulation with another more flexible provision based on the ability and willingness of the

2. To recommend, further, that the Regional Director ask the Director-General of the World Health

Organization to take such steps as he deems advisable to have the United Nations Technical

Assistance Board give this aspect of the Technical Assistance Program additional consideration.
