In this issue of the Cadernos EBAPE.BR, we have decided to sign of on the Editorial as a team to stress that, even though the journal is now under new leadership, the focus will coninue to be on the high quality and analyical content of the aricles it publishes. Our view is sill that it is only through a fully democraic debate on diferent currents of Administraion, according to diferent paradigms, that a scieniic journal such as this can fulil its democraic mission to be open to debate on diferent lines of research, always in deference to the principles of freedom of thought and expression.

We recognize the importance of any research that adopts a coherent methodology, presents it appropriately and ofers an analyical contribuion to a speciic ield of knowledge. Furthermore, well-founded theoreical essays that ofer consistent arguments and indings of relevance to the ield of Administraion also deserve, in our view, to be highlighted and discussed. We seek to publish studies of a superior scieniic quality that are based on a variety of diferent paradigms and that provide well-founded results. All the aricles we publish have one thing in common in that they preach the same values as we do: democraic freedom; the strength of ideas; and consistent analysis. Although we tend to favour criical thinking, any aricles with a proven scieniic quality that are based on alternaive forms of theoreical approach, and which make a signiicant con-tribuion to Administraion as a whole, are also welcome.

We believe that freedom of choice and the pleasures of intellectual discovery are born of the scieniic debate between ideas and theories, of the contradictory and of there being diferent perspecives of knowledge. Innovaion in a speciic subject comes from free access to diferent points of view, ones that have been proven by means of pracical indings or been based on theoreical essays.

We are currently experiencing a period of uncertainty and socioeconomic crisis in Brazil and indeed, in the world at large. Structured research can ofer us new roads and new possibiliies and help reairm certain important values, which include the democraisaion of human relaions, the freedom of expression of ideas and the social contribuion of scieniic knowledge. As previously menioned, in this issue we mark a transiion in the editorial leadership of the Cadernos EBAPE.BR, which passes from Fernando Guilherme Tenório to Isabella Francisca Freitas Gouveia de Vasconcelos. Both of us have much in common and the idea is to coninue in the same vein of publicaion as before.

Something that we do share, aside from the aforemenioned values, is our interest in exploring the possibiliies of structured communicaion within organisaions based on the Habermas Theory of Communicaive Acion – a sign of hope in the opment of fairer labour relaions and in improving human relaions within organisaions. Values such as sustainable devel-opment, social jusice, social inclusion, quesions linked to ethics in companies and to corporate social responsibility are just some of the issues we believe to be fundamental. This is especially true in a country like Brazil, which is marked by major social contrasts, with cuing-edge development in some sectors and regions, and abysmal backwardness in others. In the informaional society of today, social and technological innovaion should also be sustainable and indeed the preservaion of the environment is a value that is increasingly present in the ield of Organisaional Studies, whether from a criical point of view, or in terms of proposed innovaive soluions.

Educaion and research reveal unknown realiies based on solid data and scieniic methodology, proposing and allowing for the development of an ability to analyse and for the educaion of more conscienious ciizens. An increase in the level of educaion tends to make the populaion more conscienious and reduce inequaliies, thereby encouraging greater social inclusion. Those scieniic journals that ofer a combinaion of educaion and research do, therefore, play an important role in this context.

Cad. EBAPE.BR, v. 14, nº 4, Editorial, Rio de Janeiro, Oct./Dec. 2016. Currently, the journal is classiied by CAPES (the Coordinaion for the Improvement of Higher Educaion Personnel) as a Qualis A2 publicaion. In addiion to our regular ediions, we also publish special-themaic issues and a programme of publicaion of special issues in other languages. We publicise forums of debate on relevant subjects (Opinion Secion) as well as the work of researchers from other countries considered relevant and of a high level of scieniic quality. We have revitalised our Scieniic Commitee: in addiion to cuing-edge researchers from across the country, we now also have internaional researchers working with us. We take our role to further develop the ield of Administraion in Brazil very seriously. We contribute to this by giving coverage to high quality Brazilian research abroad and we publicise internaional research that is relevant to our ield and that is based on the aforemenioned values.

With all this in mind, we now follow with a brief summary of the aricles included in this issue.

The aricle “The consituion of the idenity of professors in advanced degree courses of two higher educaion insitu -ions: a study based on the relaions of power and the roles in organizaions”, by Marcos Vinícius Pereira Correa and Mariane Lemos Lourenço, looks at the consituion of the idenity of stricto sensu graduate programme professors in one public university and in one private university. The aricle makes it clear that the idenity of faculty is permeated by mean-ings that are absorbed through socialisaion over the course of their academic careers, so that the choice of a faculty career and the meanings that are atributed to teaching and research are primarily formed through the day-to-day interacion with other professors and students.

The work by Eda Castro Lucas de Souza and Renato Ribeiro Fenili, ofers a study of organisaional culture using manage-ment pracices, from the perspecive of Bourdieu’s theoreical framework. To this end, analysing the state of the art of works of research that use this approach is presented as a secondary goal. The focus of the aricle is then, the pracice of management, understood as a cultural manifestaion of the organisaion through which normaive, symbolic, semanic and value aspects are brought to the fore.

The aricle enitled “The social representaion theory in Brazilian organizaional studies: a bibliometric analysis from 2001 to 2014”, by Priscilla de Oliveira Marins-Silva, Annor da Silva Junior, Guilherme Gustavo Holz Peroni, Carolina Porto de Medeiros and Nádia Ortolan da Vitória, shows how the Theory of Social Representaions (TSR), as proposed by Serge Moscovici during the 1960s, has gone through a process of modiicaion and expansion. It has passed from being a mere body of knowledge contained within the ield of Social Psychology, to one that now extends to many diferent areas of knowledge. The aricle provides the results of a bibliometric survey on scieniic producion using the TSR in Organisaional Studies.

In “Organizaional mission: what does criical discourse analysis reveal?”,an aricleby Hélio Arthur Reis Irigaray, Gustavo Ximenes Cunha and Bruno Anastassiu Harteu, the authors ofer a criical analysis of the poliical and ideological content that underlines the business discourse of the declared mission statements of the largest companies in Brazil. The authors analyse the missions published on the insituional homepages of the 64 companies that make up the theoreical port-folio of the Bovespa share Index (Ibovespa), and the results reveal the structure that underlines the discourse of these mission statements. This ofers one the possibility to idenify the speciic proiles of these companies, according to their discursive characterisics and their funcions of manipulaion and legiimisaion.

The aricle enitled “I, Alex, from the Guarani Ethnic Group: the indigenous student’s tesimony of an administra -ion undergraduate program and his double belonging”, by Marcio Pascoal Cassandre, Wagner Roberto do Amaral and Alexandro da Silva, shows that the presence of students with an indigenous background in Brazilian public universiies is a recent phenomenon, only going back as far as 2002, with the unprecedented enrolment and permanence of these stu-dents at insituions in the state of Paraná. The trajectory of these stustu-dents in diferent graduate programmes relects the existence of a dual state of belonging: being both of an indigenous origin and an academic at the same ime. The narra-ive of this aricle reveals certain challenges, limits and possibiliies faced over the course of an academic programme in Administraion by students of indigenous origins.

The authors Wescley Silva Xavier and Alexandre de Pádua Carrieri, in their aricle enitled “Discourse and ciies: a study of Cataguases - MG based on the modernisic literature of Revista Verde, argue that the adopion of ciies and towns as the

Cad. EBAPE.BR, v. 14, nº 4, Editorial, Rio de Janeiro, Oct./Dec. 2016. The work enitled “The ‘hedonisic ciizen’: dialogues on consumpion and paricipatory ciizenship in contemporary society”, by Josiel Lopes Valadares, Ana Alice Vilas Boas, Daniel Carvalho de Rezende, Aline Pereira Sales Morel and Júlia Moreto Amâncio, seeks to understand the challenges to ciizenship brought about by the advent of the phenomenon of hyperconsumerism in Brazilian society, from the perspecive of those theories that atempt to clarify the implicaions of the centrality of consumpion at the current ime. One of the criicisms is aimed at those policies that argue that con-sumpion helps people become socially included, minimising the efects resuling from social inequality and contribut-ing to a percepion that exerciscontribut-ing one’s rights as a ciizen is a mere monetary inclusion into the consumer market in this country. The belief is that ciizenship and social inclusion have a meaning that goes far beyond mere consumpion. “Academic producivism based on a Habermasian perspecive”,by authors Fábio Vizeu, Marie Anne Macadar and Alexandre Reis Graeml, looks at uilitarianism in academic pracice on the basis of the ideas of discursive ethics put forward by Jürgen Habermas, exploring anxieies regarding the subject of producivism in Brazilian research. Methodologically, a theoreical approach is used as an argumentaive procedure, in order to construct a less formal and a less provocaive text, and to help launch a degree of relecion and debate on the subject. More speciically, one can see the problem of the quanita-ive valorisaion without the qualitaquanita-ive consideraion of the academic work in gauging academic acivity, as well as a lack of proper consideraion of the ethical and moral values involved within the scieniic and educaional context in Brazil. Authors Marcelo de Souza Bispo and Francisco José da Costa look at how one can evaluate or assess students taking disciplines that are part of stricto sensu graduate programmes in Administraion in “Papers as student assessment in graduate courses: educaive tool or a sub-system of assembly line?”. In addiion to providing a criique, they also try to present some evaluaion opions and discuss the best alternaives for an educaion process at this level of educaion. The aricle enitled “The crisis, the State, and the mistakes of poliical administraion in contemporary capitalism”, by Reginaldo Souza Santos, Fábio Guedes Gomes, Thiago Chagas Silva Santos, Elizabeth Matos Ribeiro and Luiz Marques de Andrade Filho, looks at the crisis of modern-day capitalism and discusses, on a theoreical basis, the diferent interpre-taions of the crisis, with the aim of presening new perspecives. The authors also try to examine, on a structural level, the role played by the State in this crisis, and how it has been central and funcional in the poliical administraion of present-day capitalism in Brazil and around the world.

The work enitled “Outsourcing and resistance to it in Brazil: Bill No. 4,330/04 and the acions of collecive actors”,by Filipe Augusto Silveira de Souza and Ana Heloísa da Costa Lemos, deals with historical and legal aspects relaing to the growing lexibilisaion of labour relaions in Brazil, especially from the 1990s onwards. The aricle looks primarily at the outsourcing of producive aciviies and the new legal scenarios that deal with such relaions in this, the 21st Century. In compleing this issue, the aricle “Administraive science and public management: a criicism of the primacy of private over public”,by Raphaela Reis Conceição Castro Silva and Clenia de Maia, suggests that public management receives a strong scieniic inluence from the ield of Administraion: many diferent models applied in the public context origi-nated in the ield of business management.

All the aricles published in this issue are also freely available in English version to all our readers. We wish you all very pleasant reading!
