Es el proceso de planifi cación, gestión y control de los ﬂ ujos de materiales y productos, en el que se incluyen las informaciones y los servicios relacionados con dicho proceso.

La cadena logística incluye las operaciones de aprovisionamiento de materias primas o materiales, la fabricación o trans- formación de productos y distribución de los mismos. Abarca los movimientos internos y externos, así como las operaciones de importación y exportación.

La gestión de este proceso es un factor clave para satisfacer la demanda en los mercados globalizados, donde, además de los productos, compiten las cadenas logísticas.

Es imprescindible la colaboración entre las empresas que par- ticipan en una misma cadena logística: fabricantes, distribuido- ras, clientes y operadores logísticos. La colaboración permite:

- Optimizar recursos logísticos.

- Reducir los tiempos de aprovisionamiento, mediante operaciones de cross trade por ejemplo.

- Reducir costos logísticos.

- Minimizar existencias.

- Asegurar la trazabilidad y disponibilidad de los productos.
