PROGRAM AND BUDGET OF THE REGIONAL OFFICE OF THE
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION FOR 1950
THE 3rd DIRECTING COUNCIL,
As Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas,
Considering that under the terms of the Constitution of the World Health Organization and the
Agreement between the Pan American Sanitary Organization and the World Health Organization
signed on 24 May 1949, the Directing Council of the Pan American Sanitary Organization met as
the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas on 12 October 1949,
[with] representatives from the United Kingdom, France, and the Netherlands [enjoying] full
privileges; and
[Having considered] the relationship between the program and budget of the World Health
Organization and [that] of the Pan American Sanitary Organization, after a study of the documents
Organization, the Program and Budget for 1950 of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau, and
Resolution III, paragraph 1, of the Executive Committee at its 8th Meeting,
RESOLVES
1. To recommend to the World Health Organization that it establish sections on tuberculosis,
malaria, venereal disease, maternal and child health, and environmental sanitation in the Regional
Office, and that, through such sections, the Regional Director consult with the Member
Governments in order to develop active programs of technical assistance in these fields.
2. To recommend to the World Health Organization that an appropriate portion of its fellowship
funds be allotted to the Region of the Americas, and that, in the administration of such funds,
consideration be given to the value of training in existing schools and institutions in all parts of the
Americas.
