The Pediatric Intraosseous Infusion Leg (231-00101) is a lifelike interactive model designed by Laerdal to simulate the leg of a six-year-old patient. It is intended for training professionals in the practice of intraosseous infusion.

The Pediatric I.O. Leg is a disposable model that can be used as a stand alone trainer or attached and used as a module for the MegaCode Kid and SimJunior manikins.

Call your local Laerdal Representative for details.

The quality workmanship of this model should warrant user several training sessions if used as intended and when reasonable care and maintenance is practiced.

Laerdal Recommendations:

I/O catheter - 18-gauge (not included)

Caution/Warning: Do not use saline solution. This leads to the deterioration of the I.O. Leg.

Directions for Use:

Turn the I.O. Leg model upside down and open the heel plug.

Use a standard syringe to fill the bone inside the I.O. Leg with approximately 120cc of simulated blood.

Attach the I.V. bag set by

inserting the end of the I.V. drip into the heel.

The I.V. drip connector fits firmly into the heel and should not leak.

Fluids inside the I.O. Leg will drain into the I.V. drainage bag attached to the heel of the leg.

When the drainage bag is full, stop the infusion and empty the bag to prevent leakage.

Laerdal Recommends Using the tubing valve system, open line to relieve fluid build-up when transfusing liquids into the leg.

Close line to prevent simulated blood to seep into the drainage bag.

Before storing:

1. Disconnect drainage bag from heel.

2. Allow all fluids to drain from heel and squeeze leg to evacuate as much fluid as possible.

3. Store leg unplugged to allow drying.

Care and Maintenance:

1. Clean model with mild soap and water after each training session. Store properly between training. To prevent mildew or mold, model should be drained and air-dried thoroughly before storage and disinfected when needed.

2. Use only on clean surface, avoid placing the model on newsprint or inked lines of any kind.

3. Avoid felt tipped markers, ink pens, acetone, iodine or other staining products as those will mark the model permanently.

NOTE: The manufacturing process of the Pediatric I.O. Leg Trainer does not permit its repair or

refurbishment.
