EDITORIAL NOTE

The Brazilian Journal of Biology®: A Journal on Neotropical Biology.

In name of the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Biology®, it is my great pleasure to open this February number with a special message of thanks. The seventy years of the publication of this journal is an achievement that calls for cel- ebration for several reasons: first, it is an effort of the Brazilian and Latin American community of biologists; it is also a result of the work of hundreds of scientists throughout the world that agree to peer review the scientific papers, reviews and notes; and it is the result of ample and continuous efforts of chief editors and mem- bers of the editorial board who have spent time and resources to consolidate the editorial policy of the journal. Three main focuses, today, drive the journal: rigor- ous analysis of submitted papers, high quality publication and a permanent focus on neotropical biota. The Association for the Support of the Brazilian Journal of Biology, itself maintained by a community of biologists from Brazil and Latin America, is also to be complimented.

It is also important to thank the governmental agencies CNPq, FAPESP and Finep: over the years, the financial support from these agencies has made the pub- lications possible.

The Brazilian Academy of Sciences generously maintained the BJB for many years, thereby ensuring its fundamental quality for the future.

After the incorporation of the BJB into the International Institute of Ecology, continuous logistic and strategic support has been given by the IIE.

We are quite sure that the BJB has been consolidated into an International Scientific Journal. We will strive to attain higher levels of quality with continuous effort to increase our impact factor with the publication of high quality scientific papers.
