The Brazilian Editor’s Note

This special issue is co-edited by Diane Larsen-Freeman, pioneer in complexity studies in the field of Applied Linguistics and responsible, in the last two decades, for the dissemination of concepts from chaos and complexity theory in our field. We are grateful to her for having accepted the task of co-editing this issue and for having written such an insightful introduction.

It is a pleasure to see the butterfly effect of her work reflected in this issue’s 11 papers written by 12 researchers from 11 institutions located in 6 countries on 4 continents. All these works illustrate how far complexity studies in Applied Linguistics have grown since Larsen-Freeman first paper in 1997.

We are also grateful to the contributors who made this issue possible.
