ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE PAHO
THE 19th DIRECTING COUNCIL,
Having considered the 1968 Annual Report of the Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau,
Regional Office of the World Health Organization for the Americas (Official Document 95);
Bearing in mind the statements of the representatives emphasizing the valuable support given by the
Pan Amerian Health Organization to the efforts of the countries to raise the level of health of the
population;
Bearing in mind also the concern expressed by the representatives about the persistence of problems
of sanitation, communicable diseases, and nutrition and the complexity of the situation in the
Region, where the health services in the countries have achieved different levels of development;
and
Taking into account the provisions of Article 4-F of the Constitution of the Pan American Health
Organization,
1. To approve the Annual Report of the nnual Report of the Director of the Pan American
Sanitary Bureau for 1968 (Official Document 95), and to commend him and his staff on the
excellent work done during the year.
2. To recommend to the Member Governments that they make a careful review of the health
situation in their countries so as to determine the priority areas in which the work of the Pan
American Sanitary Bureau can be most effective.
3. To recommend to the Member Governments that they regard the Annual Reports of the
Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau as working documents of regional importance,
indicating where the interests and efforts of each country fit into the welfare of the countries of the
Americas as a whole
