Introduction

TheMuseudeZoologiadaUniversidadedeSãoPaulo(MZUSP), SãoPaulo,Brazil,isoneofthemostimportantresearchinstitutions holdingscientiﬁczoologicalcollectionsinSouthAmerica.The col-lectionisthelargestandmostimportantdepositoryofNeotropical DipterainBrazilandinSouthAmerica,withmorethan8000species andsixhundredmillionmountedspecimens.

ThefamilyAnisopodidaeencompassessevenrecentgenerain theworld,withover120describedspecies(AmorimandTozoni, 1994;Hancock andAmorim, 2009).Five generaand 65 species areknownfromNeotropicalregion(Amorimetal.,2002;Hancock and Amorim, 2009). The Neotropical fauna of Anisopodidae is composedofsixgenera–CarreraiaCorrêa,1947;SylvicolaHarris, 1776;OlbiogasterOsten-Sacken,1886;LobogasterPhilippi,1865; andMycetobiaMeigen,1818,ofwhichCarreraia(1species), Olbio-gaster(13),andSylvicola(7),inAnisopodinae,andMycetobia(1, undescribed),inMycetobiinae,arerecordedfromBrazil(Papavero, 1967;Amorimetal.,inpress).

Following a recommendation of the International Code of ZoologicalNomenclature(ICZN,1999:72F.4), thepresentpaper

provides a catalogue with information on 54 type specimens (including21holotypesand33paratypes)of24Neotropicalspecies ofthefamilyAnisopodidae heldinthecollectionoftheMZUSP (Table1).

The list given below is in alphabetical order of subfamily, genusandepithet.Names,combinationsandspellingsfollowthe catalogueof Anisopodidae oftheAmericas south oftheUnited States (Papavero,1967).For each species section, the ﬁrst line providesthename,author andpublication date.Thenextlines providethetaxon’soriginalname(includingﬁgurecitations), rel-evantcitationsfrompublicationsotherthanoriginaldescription, type locality, as well as information regarding the specimen’s preservation,includingalistofthemissingstructures.Labeldata arequoted indouble quotationmarks. Averticallineseparates each linein the text of each label. In case of handwriting on printedlabels,thehandwrittentextisreproducedinitalics; com-pletelyhandwrittenandprintedlabelsarereproducedinregular font. Withinsquare brackets areincluded additions tosomeof theoriginalinformationonlabels,suchasabbreviatedcollecting dates, incomplete localities and names of collectors. Further-more, when necessary, theoriginal combination of the species wasindicatedwithinbrackets.Thisstandardforreproducingthe informationonthelabelsfollowspreviouscataloguesofDiptera housedatthe MZUSP,i.e. Ribeiroet al.(2007), Yamaguchiand Lamas (2009), Melloand Lamas (2011), and Fachin and Lamas (2015).
