Welcome To Holy Rosary Parish Dear Friends,

This weekend, we will be sending our RCIA Candidates and Catechumens to St. Benedict Cathedral for the Rite of Election. Many of our candidates have been discerning with our RCIA team for almost a year and the

Season of Lent brings them to the final preparation for reception of the Easter Sacraments. Please keep them in your

prayers as they complete these final days of preparation to be one with us through the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Christ’s peace, Fr. Bernie

Queridos Amigos,

Bernie

Stations of the Cross

The way of the cross will be prayed in church on Tuesdays of Lent after the 6 PM Mass. As for all services, masks are

required as well as social distancing. You might want to consider this prayer form as a way of being in prayerful solidarity with all the suffering people in our world, particularly those with COVID.

RCIA UPDATE

Next weekend we will present 6 people to Bishop Siegel for the Rite of Election. Parishioners have not seen our candidates and catechumen much this year because they have been participating in the live stream Mass and meeting for class virtually since De- cember. We invite you to continue to prayer for them as they prepare for full membership in the Catholic Church come Easter.

Our candidates and catechumen are:

Brandon Davis Brent Miley Doug & Carrie Patterson

Brandon Whitfield Rae Zirkelbach

Join us this Lent for a prayerful and peaceful vigil!

Invite a friend or two to walk and pray in front of Planned Parenthood for the 40 Days for Life. This cam- paign starts Wednesday, February 17th-Sunday, March 28. Holy Rosary has been invited to walk on Thursday’s but you are welcome to walk anytime dur- ing the spring campaign. For more information, please contact Kim Engbers at [email protected] or Kathy Smith at [email protected]

Diaper Drive

Right to Life of Southwest Indiana has started a drive to resupply the diaper supply in the area’s Pro-life agencies. For the month of February, you can support the drive by dropping off diapers at Birthright or the Right to Life Office. To donate online please visit www.rtlswin.org/diaperdrive

Be A Good Steward of the Lenten Season

Here are some suggestions for keeping us on task dur- ing this Lenten season:

x Plan ahead. Give thought and prayer to what will most help you draw closer to Jesus during this spe- cial season. Write your intentions down, and review them often.

x Keep it simple. Like those folks who sign up for gym memberships on January 1 and give up by January 15, sometimes we approach Lent with too many res- olutions. Be realistic and don’t set yourself up for guilt.

x Simplify something tangible in your daily life, like your closet or your schedule.

x Place a special candle on the dining room table, and when your family

says grace each even- ing, encourage them to share the struggles and joys of their Lenten resolutions, or perhaps an act of kindness they did that day. This is a good activity for kids.

x Prayer, fasting and almsgiving are the pillars of Lent. Try to do one thing in each of these categories.

Stretch yourself a bit and come up with something new and challenging.

x Keep your eyes on Jesus. Coming closer to him through his passion and resurrection is our goal.

x Prepare your home with Lenten reminders. If you have no crucifix in your living

areas, place one there. If you have a crucifix, perhaps af- fix a spot of purple to it as a reminder of Lent. Find a spe- cial picture or holy card that speaks to you and display it.

x If possible and safe, take your family to the Stations of the Cross at least once.

x Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and encour- age your family to do so.

x Make it a point to prepare for and participate in the beautiful Triduum liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and even the Easter Vigil even if you can only do this online. Celebrate the completion of your Lenten exercises.

x After Easter, reflect on your Lenten practices. Re-

Lent with Friends

We started our practices of Social Distancing and staying away from our family and friends during Lent last year and it has been challenging. The par- ish is still not hosting a lot of group or gathered ac- tivities for us to build community and pray together.

So this year we are encouraging you to

DO “LENT WITH FRIENDS”

(of course in a COVID responsible way). Here is what we mean by Lent with Friends:

FIND 3-5 friends who are willing to do Lent with you. Maybe they are all people in your bubble.

Friends Groups can be made up of:

2 or 3 Couples

All men, all women, combined groups

A group of Young Adults or Middle School or High School youth

Catholic & non- Catholics alike Maybe invite neighbors

Register your group with the parish so we can pray for all of our groups

During the 6 weeks of Lent COMMIT to participating in a Bible or Book Study, Pray together each week, engage in acts of service and outreach Set a day/time for your Friend Group to meet either

VIRTUALLY or IN PERSON in a COVID safe man- ner.

Order your materials (if required)

Begin to meet around the week of Feb 14th (Lent be- gins Feb. 17th).

Holy Rosary is putting together a list of suggested studies and prayer ideas that you can use. Here are a few ideas – More will be available online

A Stewardship Prayer for February

Merciful God, We embark on our journey of re- newal through difficult and uncertain times; times of

division and strife, and for many suffering and dis- couragement. But our journey is with your son, Je-

sus, who bore his cross and suffered in ways we cannot imagine. We journey with Jesus toward the

great paschal feast of Easter, where we have the grace to experience true the joy of Resurrection.

Teach us to be good stewards of your mercy and forgiveness, so that we may extend these gifts to others. Give us the strength to bear witness to your

son at all times, even during these times of stress and adversity. And fill our hearts with love that we

may be faithful to the Gospel Jesus proclaimed and ready to celebrate our unity with him and each other. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

U N I T E D C A R I N G S H E L T E R Holy Rosary Parish has partnered with United Caring Shelter to cook and serve on the 2nd Saturday of every month for lunch. It only requires 3 hours of your time.

I am looking to fill the spots for 2021 so please contact me via email: [email protected] or cell: 812-484-4381 (preferred method) and I will fill you in on how you are able to serve the less fortunate in our community. We have filled January 2021 spots. Please note that if you would like to serve but are not sure you want to prepare the meal at the shelter, UCS is very receptive to meals being brought in and served by their staff. A sack lunch is always an option too if that would be something of interest. This shelter feeds those in need 3 times a day/ 365 days a year so the opportunities to bless UCS is endless. I hope you will consider taking a mo- ment to think about this opportunity and commit.

Stewardship food for thought:

First Sunday of Lent Weekend of February 20/21, 2021 In today’s Gospel, Jesus urges his listeners to do two things: to believe in the Good News and to repent. The steward is called to repent, to be hum- ble enough to open their hearts so they may begin anew, to change existing attitudes and habits, and to act with faith in the Gospel. In this season of Lent, now is the time to ask ourselves whether or not we truly believe in the Gospel; and if we do, to what extent are we willing to change our prevailing hab- its and be more faithful to the Gospel?
