REPORT OF THE AWARD COMMITTEE OF THE PAHO AWARD FOR ADMINISTRATION, 1987

The Award Committee of the PAHO Award for Administration, 1987, met on 22 June in the course of the 99th Meeting of the Executive Committee. After examining the documentation on the candidates nominated by six Member Governments, the Committee decided that the 1987 Award should go to Dr. John E. F. Hastings, nominated by the Government of Canada for his varied services in the public health field, especially in administration and research, and for a wide variety of publications in this field.

Having heard the Report of the Award Committee (Document CE99/12, ADD. I) (see Annex), the Executive Committee approved the proposed resolu-tion submitted by the Award Committee in that Report (Resoluresolu-tion IX).

The Award will be presented to Dr. Hastings in a ceremony to be held during the XXXII Meeting of the Directing Council.

Report of the Award Committee

The Award Committee for the PAHO Award for Administration, 1987, consisted of Dr. Jose Tohme Amador (Ecuador), Dr. Yanuario Garcia (Honduras), and Mr. Cornelius L. Lubin (Saint Lucia). Dr. Luis C. Ochoa (OSP) served as Secretary.

The Award Committee met on 21 June, and having heard a report on its terms of reference and the work done by the Secretariat of PAHO in connection with the Award, noted that six candidates had been nominated in 1987, as follows:

Dr. Nestor Perrone, Argentina Ms. Hilda Valerie Bowen, Bahamas Dr. John E. F. Hastings, Canada Dr. Julio E. Ospina L., Colombia

Dr. Geladio Zelada Valinotti, Paraguay Dr. Eduardo Zapata Salazar, Peru

After reviewing the information provided by the nominating governments, the Award Committee decided unanimously to grant the Award to Dr. John E. F. Hastings of Canada in recognition of his various accomplishments in public health, particularly in administrative management and research, and a wide variety of publications on this subject.

PAHO AWARD FOR ADMINISTRATION, 1987

THE 99th MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE,

Having examined the report of the Award Committee of the PAHO Award for Administration, 1987 (Document CE99/12, ADD. I); and

Bearing in mind the provisions of the Procedure and Guidelines for confering the PAHO Award for Administration as approved by the XVIII Pan American Sanitary Conference (1970) and amended by the XX Pan American Sanitary Conference (1978) and the XXVII Meeting of the Directing Council

(1980),

RESOLVES:

1. To note the decision of the Award Committee to confer the PAHO Award for Administration, 1987, on Dr. John E. F. Hastings of Canada.
