Nesse trabalho abordamos a tensão residual gerada por bombardeamento iônico com Xe+ em Si(001) e aço inoxidável AISI 316L com o intuito de ganhar entendimento dos processos físicos envolvidos, além de caracterizar a influência das caraterísticas do substrato bombardeado (orientação cristalina, tipo de ligação química) nos resultados obtidos. Também foi realizado um estudo detalhado das tensões residuais de revestimento de TiN depositado em forma de filme fino sobre substratos de Si(001) previamente esculpido com padrões regulares utilizando bombardeamento iônico com Xe+.
Em relação aos estudos dos efeitos do bombardeamento em Si(001), foi determinada a tensão residual direcional presente em profundidade (algumas dezenas de nanômetros) de forma altamente precisa utilizando radiação sincrotron. As análises mostraram que o silício bombardeado possui tensão residual no plano estimada em 𝜎 − 80 MPa em relação a tensão em substratos de Si(001) polido utilizados nos experimentos. Não foi observada influência da direção do feixe de íons na tensão residual, i.e., a tensão biaxial possui simetria cilíndrica. Por outro lado, o bombardeamento iônico em aço inoxidável AISI 316L causou tensões residuais biaxiais compressivas no plano da superfície livre das amostras, influenciadas pela direção do feixe de íons, com as componentes de tensão 𝜎11 e 𝜎22 possuindo valores em módulo entre −200 MPa e −400 MPa dependendo do ângulo de bombardeamento analisado. Atribuímos tal comportamento as diferenças das respostas elásticas desses materiais, oriundas da natureza de suas ligações químicas. As ligações do Si(001) são covalentes, rígidas e fortemente direcionais, tornando o material menos tolerante a deformações em relação ao aço, que possui ligação metálica. Devido ao comportamento das tensões poder ser associado a natureza das ligações químicas, são esperados resultados similares aos encontrados nos sistemas específicos abordados neste trabalho em outros materiais de ligação covalente ou metálica após este processo.
A presença de tensão compressiva em ambos materiais, gradiente de tensão em profundidade e tensão maior em módulo para amostras bombardeadas com maior energia são comportamentos que reforçam o efeito knock-on como principal responsável pela tensão residual após os estudos realizados. Dessa forma, este efeito pode ser considerado como dominante para elaboração de modelos físicos da formação de tensões em bombardeamento
iônico com gases nobres, de forma semelhante aos modelos bem-sucedidos de formação de tensão compressiva em filmes finos assistidos por feixe iônico [33].
Além de caracterizar a tensão gerada pelo bombardeamento em dois tipos de substratos distintos, também caracterizamos a tensão residual de TiN crescido em forma de filme fino (20 nm) sobre Si(001) previamente esculpido com padrões regulares (ripples). Os filmes apresentam tensão compressiva no plano da superfície livre, com simetria cilíndrica, estimada em 𝜎 − 3,5 GPa. Não encontramos assimetria direcional na tensão relacionada com a direção do bombardeamento. A estimativa quantitativa da tensão residual no sistema composto por Si(001) bombardeado revestido por TiN deve ser considerada nos estudos e futuras aplicações desse substrato em dispositivos envolvendo partículas metálicas nanoscópicas auto-organizadas, uma vez que tensões elásticas atuam como forças motrizes no fenômeno.
Em relação ao desenvolvimento de novos trabalhos relacionados aos resultados dessa tese, propomos aprofundar a investigação da relação entre bombardeamento com Xe+ e nitretação para verificar se, em condições experimentais além das exploradas no presente trabalho, a tensão residual gerada pelo bombardeamento pode influenciar a difusão de nitrogênio. Propomos também o estudo de outros efeitos gerados pelo bombardeamento para compreender a modificações estruturais da camada de nitretos reportadas em AISI 316L, assim como poder modelar os processos de difusão nos materiais estudados na presença de defeitos tais como vacâncias e deslocações geradas pelo impacto dos íons nos substratos.
