A reabilitação com prótese implanto-suportada para pacientes com tumores de cabeça e pescoço, requer conhecer alguns conceitos como a RT, dose de radiação, tipo de RT, complicações da RT, OHB, ORN, melhor momento para instalação dos implantes após a conclusão da radioterapia, e o local de instalação dos implantes, estes seriam os fatores mais importantes que devem ser considerados para se pensar em reabilitar um paciente irradiado. Nesta revisão sistemática, foi possível esclarecer algumas dúvidas sobre o uso da OHB como tratamento adjuvante para a instalação de implantes em pacientes irradiados. Um dos principais motivos para o desenvolvimento desta revisão sistemática foram os efeitos que a OHB proporciona aos tecidos que poderiam favorecer as condições para que os implantes pudessem ter uma melhor taxa de sobrevivência nos pacientes irradiados.
A seleção desse estudo obedeceu aos critérios de qualidade e elegibilidade, sendo selecionados 3 estudos seguindo os critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Durante essa seleção observou-se que existem muitos estudos publicados considerando a taxa de sobrevivência de implantes instalados em pacientes irradiados com dose de radiação menores que 50 Gy, e como já explicado, isso poderia ser um viés a ser considerado porque os efeitos seriam menores em relação aos tecidos, e espera-se que a taxa de sobrevivência dos implantes seja maior.
Os resultados dessa revisão sistemática e meta-análise apontam que não há diferença significativa de que o risco do implante falhar seja diferente entre pacientes que foram ou não submetidos à OHB, e também que o risco de um implante falhar dependa do local onde foi instalado, seja maxila ou mandíbula. Mas, como mencionado anteriormente, precisamos de mais estudos para fortalecer estes resultados.
