Ihr wissenschaftlicher Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Messung von Ergebnissen in der Palliativversorgung, der Komplexität der Palliativmedizin und der Verbesserung der Behandlung von Atemnot bei Patienten mit fortgeschrittenen Erkrankungen. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die begleitende Radiochemotherapie, die funktionserhaltende Behandlung bösartiger Tumoren sowie die multimodale Therapie.
Peter Albers ist Direktor der Klinik für Urologie am Universitätsklinikum Düsseldorf und Präsident der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft. Philipp Beckhove leitet als Geschäftsführender Direktor das Regensburger Zentrum für Interventionelle Immunologie (RCI) am Universitätsklinikum Regensburg als Executive Immunology (RCI) am Universitätsklinikum Regensburg.
Er ist wissenschaftlicher Leiter der von der Deutschen Krebsgesellschaft geförderten Prostatakarzinom-Screening-Studie PROBASE (www.probase.de). Als Vorstandsmitglied der European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) ist er unter anderem für die europäischen Therapierichtlinien bei Magen-Darm-Tumoren verantwortlich.
Behandelt werden dort gastrointestinale Tumoren, Bronchialkarzinome, Kopf-Hals-Tumoren, gynäkologische und urogenitale Tumoren sowie Tumoren des zentralen Nervensystems, akute Leukämien und Lymphome mit besonderem Schwerpunkt auf dem multiplen Myelom. Als Immunologe und Tumorinternist ist der Transfer immunologischer Grundlagenforschung in neue Therapieansätze für die Onkologie ein besonderer Schwerpunkt seiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit.
Er leitet die Abteilung Translationale Onkologie solider Tumoren am Westdeutschen Tumorzentrum und ist als Oberarzt in der Internistischen Klinik (Tumorforschung) des Universitätsklinikums Essen tätig. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind: Wirkung von Histamin auf Zellen des Immunsystems, Pathogenese des kutanen Plattenepithelkarzinoms, Prognosefaktoren beim malignen Melanom und neue Therapieansätze bei Patienten mit Hauttumoren, insbesondere dem malignen Melanom.
