Take Five for Faith Mercy is as mercy does

A chilling scene in the movie Schindler’s List involves a Nazi commander playacting with the godlike power of absolution. Standing before a mirror, he raises his hand in a gesture of blessing and says, “I pardon you.” Then he smiles at his reflection, impressed by the look of benevo- lence. Genuine mercy, of course, isn’t something we grant ourselves, nor is it a superficial style to be admired. It’s not a softness in the heart or a welling in the eyes when we see suffering. Mercy is real when it reaches out from thought to deed, from emotion to action. Let others judge if we are merciful.

May Crowning of Mary

Please join us for a May Crowning of Mary sponsored by the St. Perpetua Daughters of Isabella. The service will be in the main church on Monday, May 6, 2019. The service will begin with a procession at 6:30 p.m. to Mary at the back of the Church, led by the Knights of Colum- bus Color Corp, the celebrant, followed by the Daughters of Isabella, who will place the Crown on a stand next to the Blessed Mother, the children will follow and place flowers at the feet of Mary, and finally the rest of the congregation, not already seated, will process in. The K of C Color Corp. will remain while the rest of the con- gregation will then proceed to their seats and the service will begin.

At the time of the crowning, two representative of the D of I and the celebrant will escort the one who is to Crown Mary. We will follow the ceremony as pre- scribed in the Daily Missalette. At the end of the May Crowning Celebrations there will be a recessional hymn and all that are able, are invited to proceed to the chapel and participate in a Benediction and Rosary. Benediction and Rosary will be celebrated each Monday in May, the Month of Mary. Please come and help us celebrate Jesus Christ by honoring His mother at this joyous celebration.

Now, of course we all know that Christ, the Second Adam, is the King of Heaven. But if the Second Adam is the King of Heaven, then it is only natural for the Second Eve to be the Queen of Heaven. And this is something we see in the Bible. In Revelation 12, when we see Mary in heaven, clothed with the sun and standing on the moon, notice that she is wearing a crown of twelve stars on her head. How much more clearly could one signify that someone is the Queen of Heaven than by having her wear a heavenly crown made up of stars?

There are other aspects of Mary’s Queenship we could bring out. For example, the fact that Chris is King and Mary is his mother means that Mary is the Queen Mother -- the mother of the King. Please come and help us celebrate Jesus Christ by honoring His mother at this joyous celebration.

Thank you & God Bless, Deacon Bob
