Another milestone for the Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology
Recen t ly, t he Jorn al Brasileiro de Pn eu mologia (JBP, Brazilian Journal of Pulmonology) underwent a name and format change. At the time, highlighted t he fact t hat t he major chan ge was n ot in layou t b u t in st ru ct u re. On e o f t h e m o st sig n ifica n t chan ges in volved t he in corporat ion of Associat e Ed it o r s , w h o w e r e c h o s e n b a s e d o n t h e ir d ist in g u ish e d scie n t ific co n t rib u t io n s. Th e se Associat e Edit ors were encouraged t o beinnovat ive in t heir t hin kin g an d have t hereby con t ribu t ed great ly t o t he growt h of t he J BP. The area of t u bercu losis was design at ed a priorit y, an d on e of our new Associate Editors, Professor Afrânio Kritski, has presided over all t u bercu losis- relat ed jou rn al fu n ct ions. In J u n e of t his year, t he J BP released a sp ecia l su p p lem en t , in wh ich t h e II Diret rizes Bra sile ira s p a ra Tu b e rc u lo se (2 n d Bra z ilia n Tu b e rcu lo sis Gu id e lin e s) we re p u b lish e d . In addit ion t o t he supplement , Prof. Krit ski suggest ed t hat , coin cidin g wit h t he I En con t ro Nacion al de Tuberculose (1st National Tuberculosis Forum) and periodically t hereaft er, t he J BP pu blish an issu e
t hat would deal solely wit h t uberculosis. There was lit t le t ime, an d t he n ext n ormal issu e was ready for publicat ion. Put t ing addit ional art icles t hrough t he u su al n ecessary screen in g process seemed an u n d e rt a kin g t h a t wo u ld b e d ifficu lt a t b e st . However, due to Prof. Kritski’s considerable abilities an d t he collaborat ion of t he Rede Brasileira de Pesqu isa em Tu bercu lose (Brazilian Tu bercu losis Research Net work), t his issu e, wholly dedicat ed t o t u bercu losis, was pu blished on schedu le. Fact s sp e a k lo u d e r t h a n wo rd s, a n d t h e st a t ist ics presen t ed in t he an n ex t o t his edit orial, showin g t he n u mber of origin al art icles regu larly su bmit t ed t o t he JBP, are u n equ ivocal.
