(2) O aniversário dos ataques terroristas de 11 de Setembro contra os Estados Unidos é uma ocasião importante e comovente para muitos americanos, especialmente neste ano, quando nos lembramos do 20º aniversário deste dia terrível. É um momento de lembrança, resolução e renovação. Lembramos com reverência aqueles que foram mais diretamente afetados por essa tragédia – aqueles que morreram, foram feridos ou perderam queridos. Duma maneira especial, lembramos os altruístas primeiros respondedores – bombeiros, polícia, capelães, trabalhadores de emergência e outras pessoas corajosas – que arriscaram, e muitas vezes perderam, suas vidas em seus esforços corajosos para salvar outras pessoas. Também nos lembramos de como nossa nação reagiu aos terríveis acontecimentos daquele dia – recorremos à oração e depois uns aos outros para oferecer ajuda e apoio. Resolvemos sempre rejeitar o ódio e resistir ao terrorismo. Este tempo também pode ser de renovação – ao enfrentarmos os desafios de hoje, vamos invocar o espírito de unidade do 11 de Setembro para enfrentar nossos muitos desafios. Como o Papa Bento XVI orou uma vez: “Deus de amor, compaixão e cura... Confortai-nos e consolai-nos, revigorai-nos na esperança e concedei-nos a sabedoria e a coragem para trabalhar incansavelmente por um mundo onde reinem a paz e o amor verdadeiros entre as Nações e no coração de todos.” Amen.

(1) Haiti Relief Collection … As you know, the people of Haiti suffered another devastating earthquake. The Diocese has authorized a special collection to be taken to help relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. If you have not yet made your donation, you can do so this weekend by placing it in an envelope marked “Haiti Earthquake” or “Haiti Relief.” Proceeds raised will support pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church in Haiti as well as the efforts of the Catholic Relief Services. Thank you for your generosity.
(2) The anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks against the United States is an important and moving occasion for many Americans, especially this year when we remember the 20th anniversary of this terri- ble day. It is a time for remembrance, resolve and renewal. We rever- ently recall those who were most directly affected by this tragedy—those who died, were injured or lost loved ones. In a special way we recall the selfless first responders—firefighters, police, chaplains, emergency work- ers, and other brave persons—who risked, and many times lost, their lives in their courageous efforts to save others. We also remember how our nation responded to the terrifying events of that day—we turned to prayer, and then turned to one another to offer help and support. We re- solve to always reject hatred and resist terrorism. This time can also be one of renewal – as we face the challenges of today, let us summon the 9/11 spirit of unity to confront our many challenges. As Pope Benedict once prayed: “O God of love, compassion, and healing … Comfort and console us, strengthen us in hope, and give us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world where true peace and love reign among na- tions and in the hearts of all.” Amen.

COVID GUIDANCE FOR FAITH FORMATION
As we begin the fall, we will continue to monitor evolutions in COVID variants, State mandates and advisories as well as CDC guidance. Our Faith Formation program will utilize the Massachusetts State Mask Guidelines for schools, which requires all staff and students aged 5 and above to wear a mask while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Currently, this mandate is in effect until October 1, at which time the State will reevaluate. Social distancing, proper sanitation and hand washing will also be highly encouraged.
