Learning outcomes of the curricular unit
Objectives: This curricular unit seeks to initiate students in philosophic reflection about culture and correspondingly endowing them with the conceptual tools necessary to building a historical-critical framework for the development of Western civilisation spanning the period from the mythical configuration of the real through to the technical–scientific progress of modernity and contemporary times.
Competences: Identifying the most relevant analytical texts, students develop critical positions on the general theme of the relationship between philosophy and culture. Expressing personal positions on philosophic reflections on notions of cultural progress and civilizational development through oral and written interventions in classes, students also produce a work in accordance with the research article methodology. This involves grasping the historical context around the transition from mythical hermeneutics of the real to anthropological and noetic hermeneutics. This recognises the dialogic character of the human condition and its corresponding sociocultural organisation; questioning the origins and purpose of culture; and identifying the metaphysical scope of the Philosophy of Culture and its main problems within the context of post-modernity.
