項 目 摘 要

Due to its relatively low cost, excellent electrical and thermal conductivities,

copper is often used as the overhead contact wires for electric railway

systems. However, the low wear resistance attributable to its low hardness

greatly affects its application and service lifespan. In recent years, laser

remanufacturing has been extensively used for surface treating engineering

components with the merits of refined microstructure, strong metallurgical

bond, low dilution ratio, minimum distortion and high processing speed. It

brings great economic & social benefits including lower energy consumption,

reduction of pollution, saving precious materials and high value added to the

components. In order to enhance the wear resistance and hence the lifespan of

copper, surface modification employing various metals such as Cr, Ni, W, Ti

and Al on pure copper was attempted using laser surface modification with a

2.5 kW CW Nd:YAG laser. The microstructure, hardness, electromechanical

wear and corrosion resistance and interfacial contact resistance (ICR) of the

laser-surface modified copper were compared with those of cold-drawn pure

copper. The hardness of the laser-surface modified samples has increased to

at most 7.5 times. All the laser-surface modified samples have ICR values

close to that of the cold-drawn copper, except for laser-alloyed sample with

W. Among all specimens, the laser-surface modified sample with Ti shows

the most significant improvement in both electromechanical wear and

corrosion resistance while the electrical conductivity can be preserved.
