REPORT ON THE PAHO AWARD FOR ADMINISTRATION, 1976

The Executive Committee, at its 76th Meeting, received from the Award Committee for the PAHO Award for Administration its report (annexed), in which it recommended that, for his excellent work in administrative manage-ment, Dr. Ernani Guilherme Fernandes da Motta, of Brazil, be given the Award.

The Executive Committee took note of the decision and adopted the following resolution:

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE,

Having examined the report of the Award Committee for the PAHO Award for Adminsitration (Document CE76/4, ADD. I); and

Bearing in mind the regulations set forth in the Procedure Governing the PAHO Award for Administration,

RESOLVES:

1. To take note of the decision of the Award Committee to confer the PAHO Award for Administration, 1976, on Dr. Ernani Guilherme Fernandes da Motta, of Brazil, for his work in ad-ministrative management, especially in connection with the meningitis vaccination campaign in his country.

2. To transmit the report of the Award Committee for the PAHO Award for Administration (Document CE76/4, ADD. I) to the XXIV Meeting of the Directing Council.

3. To request the Directing Council to recommend to the Member Governments that they take advantage of the purposes

of the PAHO Award for Administration, namely to encourage excellence in the field of administration, and participate by nominating candidates for the Award.

REPORT OF THE AWARD COMMITTEE, PAHO AWARD FOR ADMINISTRATION, 1976

The Award Committee,comprising Dr. Luis Valle Urefia of Bolivia, Dr. Carlos Lucio Ortega of Argentina, and Ms. Margaret McDonald of The Bahamas, met under the chairmanship of the last named, on Monday, 21 June 1976.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the documents submitted by the Governments of Brazil and Colombia in respect of the candidates presented by those Governments for the PAHO Award for Administration,

namely, Dr. Abel Duefas Padr6n and Dr. Ernani Guilherme Fernandes da Motta.

At the first meeting of the Committee it was agreed that additional time was needed to review the documentation thoroughly. A second meeting was convened by the secretary on Thursday, 24 June, under the chairmanship

of Ms. McDonald. At that meeting it was unanimously decided that although the two candidates deserved recognition, the activities of Dr. Fernandes da Motta were more closely related to the concepts for which the Award was established. The Committee, therefore, recommends that the recipient

of the PAHO Award for Administration, 1976, should be Dr. Ernani Guilherme Fernandes da Motta for his excellent work in administration.

The Committee also recommends that honorable mention be made of Dr. Abel Dueftas Padr6n for his outstanding achievements in the area of
