TOPIC OF THE TECHNICAL DISCUSSIONS, 1978

The Executive Committee at its 78th Meeting, after considering the presentation made by the Director regarding his concern over the title of the subject for the Technical Discussions, 1978, decided to recommend to the Directing Council that it clarify the title to read: "The Impact of Drugs on Health Costs: National and International Problems." (See Res. CE78.Rll, annexed.)

In the first part of 1977 the Director made funds available for the conduct of consultations with the Member Governments and preparation of the documentation.

The Technical Unit of PAHO responsible for this endeavor has prepared a questionnaire, which has been sent to the Ministers of Health, and is con-ducting studies in selected countries with the collaboration of consultants.

The documentation is scheduled to be ready by the first semester of 1978, so that the Member Governments will have adequate time to analyze the information before the convocation of the Pan American Sanitary Conference.
