T
he Pousada of Évora combines an elegant design with the charm of the building that was initially the Monastery of S. João Evangelista, founded in 1485, where the Lóios friars lived in. In the heart of Évora, a city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Lóios Convent serves as a staarting point for a “rendez-vous” with history. Its 36 rooms have been recreated, based upon the old cells on the first floor, which
is accessed via a monumental staircase. Each room is different from the others, having their own character by the combination of a contemporary interior design with detail which brings unique soul to each individual space. In the Lóios Convent, the absolute peace of the Alentejo region will seem little to you. Each stone and each antique object exudes history, in an atmosphere that brings us back to the experiences of other times.

RESTAURANT
OF THE POUSADA
A real challenge to the senses.
The original stone arched roofs create a
contemporary and warm atmosphere. In the calm
cloister of Mosteiro, surrounded by stone pillars,
arches and old furniture, you will taste the most
refined gastronomy known in our days.
In the restaurant, you will find a cuisine full of
smells, flavours and colors, served with sympathy.
Simplicity becomes style, and the silence of the
Alentejo region is cut by the sound of conviviality
and the sharing of unique moments. In the bar, with
its marble floor, you can rest and leaf through the
courtesy newspaper.
Number of seats: 80

É
vora is the capital town of the
Alentejo region, a land of endless
plateaus, strewn with olive and
cork trees. It is one of the most romantic
towns in Alentejo. Its ancient history is
told by its narrow medieval pavement
streets and by traces of different epochs
and civilizations, such as the Roman
temple devoted to Diana, in Roman
mythology was the hunting goddess.
With its historical centre, demarcated by
its medieval walls, is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site. Arcades lead to picturesque
squares, where small coffee bars with
terraces are a good excuse to escape
from the intense sun, and the restaurants
offer you a gastronomic trip through the
Southern region of the country.
OUT
Évora was conferred the name
of “Liberalitas Julia” by the
Emperor Julius Caesar.
A little more than one hour’s distance
from Lisbon, Évora
is a charming town in every aspect with
a vast cultural heritage that has been
built and preserved over the centuries
and which visitors should discover
going on foot. Do not forget to bring
comfortable shoes and light clothing. The
Alentejo amazes with its excellent wines;
therefore, we recommend also taking
the Wine Route, a perfect example of the
balance between the wine heritage and
the historical, cultural and natural legacy
of the region.

In Évora, regional cuisine is a treasure
passed on from one generation to the
next. From oregano to rosemary, the
aromatic herbs perfume the dishes,
conferring on them the special Alentejo
touch. Bread, olive oil and garlic are the
key elements for the Alentejo cuisine. At
the end of your meal, you will surrender
to the convent confectionery, where eggs
and squash prevail.The Encharcada sweet
from the Santa Clara Convent (Évora), the
Pão de Rala cake, the Bolo Fidalgo pastry
and the Sericaia cake will certainly remain
in your memory.
