Dear Readers,
It is with immense pleasure we introduce you to the issue n. 1 of Revista Digital de Biblioteconomia & Ciência da Informação, edited by the Sistema de Bibliotecas da UNICAMP (SBU).
This issue brings contributions of professionals of Information Science who wrote papers pointing out to recent events in the área. The article of Solange Puntel Mostafa of UNIVALI University, “Distance education yes, but with which library?”, focus on the happenings in the distance education’s field today, analysing the information’s professional participation.
The second article written by por Clarinda Rodrigues Lucas of University of Campinas (UNICAMP), “Academic discourse available in human sciences: the discoursive functioning of indexing in a bibliographic database”, the author presents a survey published in 1997 which in face of its relevance maintains updated.
Professor Raimundo Nonato Macedo dos Santos of PUC-CAMPINAS in the article “Scientific production: why to measure it? what to measure?”, call attention to the ways scientific production is being measured and if this is being considered an important factor in research institutions.
Rose Mary Juliano Longo of SENAC-SP and Waldomiro Vergueiro of São Paulo University (USP) discuss characteristics and difficulties to establish information services’ quality management in the public sector reported in “Quality management of information in public sector: characteristics and difficulties for implantation”.
The last article “Identification of concepts in the process of subject analysis for indexing” written by professor Mariângela Spotti Lopes Fujita from UNESP, brings a study on the identification of concepts which improves the process of subject analysis when dealing with indexing.
We wish this new canal of information to be of great value to our peers, as well as to other professionals of related áreas.
We would like to express our gratitude to the invited authors who helped us to make this journal a mean of make public their reflections and researches, permitting us to edit our first issue.
